“We might die, we see people paralyzed”: Jackie Chan Carelessly Bought 7 Diamond Watches After He Became a Millionaire Overnight

Jackie Chan is one of the action legends who gained prominence with his unique action sequences and intensive martial arts skills which gave him top status. With a successful acting career spanning over five decades, it wouldn’t be a surprise that he gained success at quite a young age.

Not just an amazing star, but he is also blessed with immense fortune all thanks to his intense hard work. He once revealed spending his money carelessly when he gained so much wealth overnight.

In a 2016 appearance at the Sydney Opera House, Jackie Chan explored his life and career where in one segment he talked about what he did after becoming a millionaire at the young age of 20.

He shared on the show,

“When I was 20, I was a millionaire. Suddenly, $5 one day, one night, second day, I have a one million. Then I don’t know how to put the money in the bank, I don’t know how to sign. I always carry the cash walking around with my JC team”

He continued to share that he used to pay for everything in cash and kept the money with him while he traveled with his JC team. He further mentioned that he has already covered that phase in his biography, I Am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action. 

“I always pay cash. And I buy, I already, right in my biography already, I buy seven diamond watch in the same day. 

He used to buy dinner for all the old stunt guys which obviously was also an event to show off his watches. It was because he was only dreaming of his survival in the past.

“In the old days, our dream is, am I survival today? Because we have to jump like the second floor, nothing. We might die. We see people die, we see people paralyzed. I might be coming out today. So we have money spent, spent, spent, spent.”

He also shared that he bought equipments that helped him and his JC team to perform the stunts seamlessly without having a second thought about their safety. Overspending was one of his major habits that was prevalent during his young age.

Jackie Chan Once Spent $16 Million to Pay for Other People’s Meals

In his biography, Never Grow Up, he opened up about spending too much money when he gained fame at an early age. He shared how he paid too much money for his friends’ meals that too in just one year.

“After you live in poverty, cash gives you a sense of security. I spent a fortune on meals and drinks for my friends… Around ten years ago, I spent $16 million in one year paying for other people’s meals.”

However, it didn’t last till he got mature and decided to use his fortune for a good cause. In 1988, he established the Jackie Chan Foundation which has worked to improve sports for underprivileged kids. He has also worked to provide education to needy people by establishing Dragon Heart Foundation in the year 2010. He has continued to work for the social cause which further rose him to prominence.
