As Barbie movie is growing, the trend of hating the movie is on the rise as it gets the political status of “anti-men” as labeled by Bill Maher, and Ben Shapiro has been vocal about the anti-Barbie trend as well. Podcaster Joe Rogan finally broke his silence on the matter that is slowly shifting toward the political debate. “A lot of people are upset about the

Barbie movie and I left perplexed,” Rogan said on his podcast. He also revealed that he has seen the movie saying that it was a “fun silly movie about dolls who come to life but it’s you know a lot of it is about the patriarchy,” he continued. “And you know it’s a comedy about dolls people who are like you know people are upset that it’s,” he added.

“This you know like Progressive metaphor for life that it’s you know that they’re pushing Progressive politics in this I’m like it’s a f*cking doll movie. […] Yeah, it’s a fun movie about dolls who come to life and try to interact with the real world. And there’s this lady in it who’s this mom, who, um, spoiler alert, who makes Barbie feel sad because she’s playing with Barbie and she has sad feelings. It’s a f*cking interesting movie. It’s like, because I was like wow. This is a original movie like no one’s ever done a movie like this before. It’s not like anything else you could say, it was bizarre movie but it was a fun silly movie. I laughed but at the end of it I was like how did people get outraged at that? Like it make they were saying it’s, I know some people personally who said it’s anti-men I’m like ‘no.’”

Defending the movie further, Rogan said that it’s not “ant-men” and the generalization is ridiculous. The idea of representation of men based on the movie is the “dumbest” thing and the movie is the way it was supposed to be.

The criticism over the representation of men in the film was not limited to Maher and Shapiro. Tesla and X owner Elon Musk has also been critical of the movie over the repetitive use of the word “patriarchy.” “It [sic] you take a shot every time Barbie says the word ‘patriarchy’, you will pass out before the movie ends,” Musk wrote on X. Politician Ted Cruz, Youtuber Lauren Chen, and Podcaster Matt Walsh are among the public figures to join the likes of Musk.

As the dispute is on the rise, the movie offended far more conservatives as the debate is accelerating among fans. But responding to the criticism, Barbie star Margot Robbie told Time Magazine, “It’s not that it is or it isn’t. It’s a movie. It’s a movie that’s got so much in it.” When New York Times asked the director Greta Gerwig if she anticipated the ongoing bashing, she responded, “No, I didn’t. Certainly, there’s a lot of passion.”

“My hope for the movie is that it’s an invitation for everybody to be part of the party and let go of the things that aren’t necessarily serving us as either women or men. I hope that in all of that passion, if they see it or engage with it, it can give them some of the relief that it gave other people.”

Despite the criticism, the movie is growing and receiving critical accolades from the global audience and critics alike.

Barbie is currently showing in the theatres.
