One of the finest personalities in Hollywood, the Black Widow star has given some awesomely remarkable performances for the big screen that will no doubt live forever. With her sarcastic-in-a-friendly-way personality, the superstar is nothing less than the real life of her Marvel character, Natasha Romanoff.

Although she is one of the toughest stars in the entire entertainment industry, Scarlett Johansson couldn’t bear the criticism that was thrown at her for her 2013 masterpiece, Under the Skin, at the Venice Film Festival. Apparently, the audience didn’t like the plot of the sci-fi movie, thus booing the actress at the event despite her incredible performance.

Alberto Barbera, who has often found himself witnessing some of the finest events of film history and who was the artistic director of the festival for that year, shared how he rushed to the Black Widow star’s aid after her movie received surprisingly visceral reviews.

“It was one of the worst screenings I’ve attended; it was the only time the audience booed a film,” Alberto Barbera said. “Scarlett was almost in tears. I tried to say to her: ‘Don’t worry, in time the film will be recognized.’ And that’s exactly what happened. It’s now a cult movie.”

Regardless, though her exceptional gig wasn’t much appreciated at the film fest, her movie did get the true recognition it deserved following the results of the 21st-century poll of critics.

Under the Skin starred Scarlett Johansson as an alien that shape-shifts into a female human being and drives around Scotland to try and seduce unsuspecting men to her van, from where she can send them into a different dimension where they are ‘nothing more than meat’.

Despite getting terrible reviews from the general audience and becoming a box office failure, the movie was critically acclaimed at the time. Backing this claim were the results from the critics poll conducted by MASSIVE Cinema, which named the film as ‘the best British film of the 21st century’.

It is important to note that this poll consisted of sixty movie reviewers from national newspapers, leading film magazines, and freelance critics, and any and every British film released from the 1st of January, 2000 was eligible to be voted for the same.
