Jennifer Lawrence was the highest-paid actress in 2015 and 2016 and is often considered the most successful actress of her generation, with her films grossing over $5.5 billion worldwide.
She is also the first and only person born in the 1990s to have won an Academy Award. Lawrence has successfully played Mystique, aka Raven — a character that was immensely loved in a very short time from the X-Men franchise.
The actress also nailed the role of Dominika Egorova (a beautiful ballerina) in Red Sparrow — an espionage thriller with a strong lead performance that never becomes boring.
Francis Lawrence’s direction made Red Sparrow an incredibly unpredictable thriller, an extremely well-made and tense film. Jennifer Lawrence gives an incredible lead performance, with Joel Edgerton and Matthias Schoenaerts carried out well in supporting roles.
Jennifer Lawrence was Eager to Indulge in European Street Food
Jennifer Lawrence revealed that working for Red Sparrow was the first time she was really hungry and disciplined. She told Vanity Fair:
“I can’t be in character as an ex-ballerina and not feel like an ex-ballerina.”
The Hollywood actress said she couldn’t wait to eat European street food after wrapping up the ballet scenes (the filming took place in Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria):
“I can’t work on a diet. I’m hungry. I’m standing on my feet. I need more energy. I remember having a meltdown, freaking out that I had eaten five banana chips.”
Lawrence dedicated extensive time and effort to prepare for her role as Dominika Egorova. She trained for three months, working out three hours a day, six days a week, totaling 216 hours. She also spent up to 10-12 hours daily with her trainer Wong for another three months during the filming of X-Men: First Class.
Jennifer Lawrence’s Intensive Ballet Training for Red Sparrow Role
The New York Times said that JLaw did all the upper body moves herself in Red Sparrow. But when it got super technical with the footwork, her dance double Isabella Boylston came to the rescue. So, J Law was basically the face of the ballet, and Isabella was the fancy footwork behind the scenes.
The Oscar winner spilled the beans on what it took to get into dancing shape because part of preparing for Dominica was the physical training with the ballet — it wasn’t a walk in the park. The actress told People:
“It was something that was on my mind constantly throughout the entire script.”
She worked with a dance instructor for months, six days a week, three hours a day, to nail the movement and body image for her role in Red Sparrow. The associate choreographer Kurt Froman said (via People):
“I worked with Jen six days a week, three hours a day.”
Jennifer Lawrence had to put in a lot of effort to achieve the athletic and elegant body required for her role as Dominika in Red Sparrow, especially considering the character’s background as a ballerina as described in the novels.
