Elden Ring Boss, Godrick, Defeated by Goldfish

Elden Ring was released back in 2022, developed by FromSoftware, the team behind the Dark Souls series of games. Elden Ring received positive acclaim and ratings, while also pulling in almost 900,000 viewers within the first day after release. Unlike the linear Dark Souls games, Elden Ring‘s open-world setting was highly praised by gamers and critics.

Since the game’s release, Elden Ring bosses have been defeated by gamers in several weird ways, using a wide variety of objects linked to their controllers. Recently, streamer Eric has used his pet Goldfish to defeat three of Elden Ring‘s bosses in an unthinkable fashion, but this isn’t the first time gamers have done the unthinkable with odd peripherals.

Swedish Twitch streamer, Mikkaa, was in the news earlier this year when she used her dance pad from Dance Dance Revolution and a controller to defeat Malenia twice simutaneously.

Mikkaa played the game on PC fighting Malenia using her dance pad connected to the PC, as she was playing the game at the same time on a PlayStation 5 using a standard controller in which she was also fighting Malenia. Mikkaa managed to defeat Malenia on both systems at the same time.

Mikkaa spent 3 days playing Elden Ring with this setup, attempting the feat and after 199 tries, she successfully defeated the infamous Malenia in the game. Malenia is considered one of the hardest bosses to defeat in the game even once, as she heals with every successful blow.

As if to rival her, another streamer has defeated Malenia and two other bosses before her, using just his goldfish.

Streamer Used Webcam To Track Goldfish’s Movements And Control Elden Ring Character

Eric Morino, a popular YouTuber and Twitch streamer, devised a plan with a friend of his, to chart his pet Goldfish’s movements across a large aquarium.

His pet Goldfish, whom he named Tortellini, was placed in a large aquarium by himself and left to wander around as Morino’s friend compiled a way to program PlayStation controller buttons by Tortellini’s movements.

The two had come up with a PlayStation controller mapping board with a tight grid to assign specific locations in the aquarium to a button on the controller. In his YouTube video, Morino said:

“I contacted a buddy of mine – AtSign, who is an absolute genius programmer. After some trials and tribulations, we figured out how to get my goldfish to control Elden Ring. Tortellini swims in his tank, right? So, if you could figure out a way to digitally track it while he swims in the water, that could be a way to have him switch up the controls for a video game.”

Once Morino and his buddy got the code to work and track Tortellini’s movements, he was quick to start attempting to win the game’s Boss fights.

After a few initial attempts failed miserably with Tortellini swimming in positions that were not mapped to buttons that dealt any damage, the weird plan somehow worked. Morino was able to first defeat Margit, the Fell Omen in his third attempt.

Morino also attempted to defeat Malenia, one of the hardest bosses in the game, and after having almost given up following several attempts, he finally managed to get Tortellini at the right places to deal just about enough damage to succeed.

Last week, Tortellini helped Morino defeat the Demi-God, Godrick the Grafted, but not before having been decimated by Godrick in his first few attempts. Defeating Godrick isn’t an easy task the standard way, let alone have a Goldfish swim at the right places to get enough strikes dealt to win a Boss fight.

His post saw several fans responding to the feat by tweeting out just how incredible the complete plan sounds, to begin with, and also to have it work to defeat the biggest Elden Ring bosses.
