Following her appearance in the book adaptation of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter, Emma Watson became a topic of conversation in Tinseltown. Further, apart from the billion-dollar franchise giving her the media spotlight at an early age, the actress also had the opportunity of a lifetime to befriend some of her co-stars. And without a doubt, Watson created a lifelong bond with Tom Felton.
However, during filming and after the last Harry Potter movie was released, the rumor mill went into overdrive, witnessing Emma Watson and Tom Felton hanging out frequently. Further, the actress even revealed developing a crush on Felton while filming and discussed the reason why she fell in love. However, later on, the duo confirmed having nothing but friendship, despite previously developing feelings for each other.

Appearing together in the $9.5B Harry Potter franchise at a young age, Emma Watson and Tom Felton became great friends from the very beginning. Although the actress was often seen with Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, for being the onscreen golden trio, Watson revealed developing a lifelong bond with Felton.
Over the years, the duo have been frequently spotted together in public, which even made fans wonder about their relationship status. Speculating something more than just friendship between the two, fans began wondering if Felton and Watson have feelings for each other. That’s when Emma Watson revealed her childhood crush on her co-star.
Coming out to the public, Emma Watson recalled developing a childhood crush on Tom Felton. And even the actor mentioned feeling protective of her after the actress went through some tumultuous times because of gaining the media spotlight at an early age. None of her co-stars could see through her troubles better than Felton, which even made Watson grow close to the actor.
What Made Emma Watson Fall For Tom Felton?
According to an article published by ET Canada in 2021, Emma Watson recalled the moment she “fell in love” with her former co-star Tom Felton. While filming the Harry Potter movies, Felton made Watson’s heart skip a beat just like he did for most fans. However, for the actress, it was different from the rest of the world.
Recalling the particular moment when the child actors had a strange drawing lesson in between filming, Emma Watson mentioned falling head over heels for her co-star, after watching his drawing.
“I walked into the room where we were having tutoring. The assignment that had been given was to draw what you thought God looked like, and Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard. And I just don’t know how to say it — I just fell in love with him.”
Later on, it was revealed that Tom Felton was quite aware of his secret admirer, but being three years older than her, the actor often told Watson, “You’re like my little sister”. Thus, he later admitted,
“I became very protective over her. Yeah, I’ve always had a soft spot for her and that continues to this day. There’s always been something that’s like, I don’t know, a kinship.”
In the end, to fans’ disappointment, although the duo didn’t end up together, Emma Watson and Tom Felton remained great friends. They even enjoyed each other’s company followed by a warm embrace, during the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.
