The Tokyo Game Show is underway as major companies come together to share new projects and celebrate video games. Microsoft hosted their Digital Broadcast yesterday and it was filled with surprises.

While the Xbox’s main player base isn’t in Japan, it’s good for them to show a presence at the Tokyo Game Show. Demonstrating to Japanese gamers that Xbox is invested into the players, even though they have a long way to go to catch up to Nintendo and PlayStation.

Ace Attorney’s Grand Return!

One of the first surprises of Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show presentation was the announcement of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy coming January 25, 2024.

Following 2019’s Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, the brand new collection features the next three mainline games of the Ace Attorney series.

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy is expected to release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Windows/Steam. The original games were released across the Nintendo DS family and iOS/Android.

This collection is unique, as this will be the first time the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy games are playable on consoles. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy was playable on the Nintendo Wii, before making the jump to modern consoles.

If you want to catch up on the Ace Attorney series, Xbox has you covered. Game Pass subscribers can experience the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy on September 26.

To non-Game Pass subscribers, you can purchase the trilogy for $10 on all platforms for a limited time (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam/PC).

The collection normally retails for $30. If Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy is successful, fans may finally see Ace Attorney 7 become a reality.

New Forza Motorsport Track

After a gratifying message from Xbox boss, Phil Spencer, the company decided to show more love to Japan, since Forza Motorsport is less than three weeks away from launch.

The Tokyo Game Show received a first look at Hakone Circuit. Rich with beautiful cherry blossom trees, racers can enjoy the new track and tackle the turnpike.

Forza Motorsport is scheduled to launch on October 10, for Xbox Series X|S and PC. However, gamers can start playing Forza Motorsport as early as October 5, with the Premium Edition early access.

In addition, the Premium Edition includes: the Race Day Car Pack (8 new cars), Car Pass (30 new cars released weekly), VIP Membership (2X base credits, 5 cars, and more), and the Welcome Pack (5 cards and 500,000 bonus credits).

It’s very fitting for Xbox to reveal the Hakone Circuit at the Tokyo Game Show, as it pays respect to Japan.

New Pokémon? No, It’s Palworld

Palworld is a brand new multiplayer open-world action-RPG. The Tokyo Game Show trailer showed new features such as character customization and multiplayer. Gamers will immediately notice the similarities between Palworld and Pokémon, based on the art style.

While it looks very similar to Pokémon, Palworld does have its differences. For one, there are guns in the game. Both the player and the pals can use guns to take down other adversarial pals.

In addition, the pals have abilities unique to their moveset. In combination with the gunplay and pal abilities, expect the battles in Palworld to be exciting.

Newly featured in the Tokyo Game Show trailer is the multiplayer part of Palworld. We see three other players fly around the open-world as a party battles it out against pal monsters.

The action-RPG elements are sure to keep players engaged in Palworld’s grand battles. Another feature of Palworld is the base building and crafting mechanics. This is a survival game as well, so keeping base camp up to date will be crucial in Palworld

Lastly, faction leaders are part of Palworld’s gameplay. They will likely offer the player a challenge in battle, similar to the gym leaders in Pokémon games. The “Pokémon with guns” game is expected to launch for early access in January, 2024, for Xbox and Windows/PC.

Persona 5 Tactica and Persona 3 Reload Are Coming to Game Pass

Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show presentation featured two upcoming Persona games. Ahead of their launch dates, Persona 5 Tactica and Persona 3 Reload will be on Xbox Game Pass Day 1. Persona 5 Tactica, another Persona 5 spin-off, is taking the series into the tactical RPG genre.

Different from its turn based gameplay, a tactics RPG is more about moving units to specific spots on the grid for the best plan for attack.

Franchises like XCOM and Fire Emblem are perfect examples of tactics RPG games. Persona 5 Tactica is scheduled to launch later this year on November 17.

Persona 3 Reload is a remake of 2006’s Persona 3. The highly requested remake is built from the ground up to bring in new mechanics while maintaining the same story of Persona 3.

Atlantic City is Coming to Fallout 76

Bethesda was able to share with Tokyo Game Show that Fallout 76’s Atlantic City update is coming later this year on December 5. The update has so much content, Bethesda is splitting Atlantic City into two releases.

New locations, new factions, new missions, a fleshed out casino, and more, are all part of the Atlantic City update. Steam players can enjoy Fallout 76‘s Atlantic City a few months early as they will have access to public test servers on October 3.

The Tokyo Game Show received a special announcement from SUDA51, legendary video game designer, director, and writer. He is known for his work on No More Heroes and Lollipop Chainsaw, his new game is titled Hotel Barcelona.

In collaboration with another Japanese developer, SWERY65, SUDA51 is making his original idea become a reality. Hotel Barcelona is about every serial killer in the United States gathered in the hotel.

It’s up to you as the player to go through every floor and defeat these serial killers. Hotel Barcelona is a 2.5D action game that is heavily inspired by the history of horror films. Experience SUDA51 and SWERY65’s Hotel Barcelona in 2024 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC/Steam.

The Elder Scrolls Online is Coming to Japan

ZeniMax Online Studios announced during the Tokyo Game Show presentation that The Elder Scrolls Online is finally being fully localized for Xbox consoles in Japan. Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players will have The Elder Scrolls Online Japan localization starting on November 15.

In addition, Creative Director, Rich Lambert, highlighted more content is on the way to The Elder Scrolls Online on top of the already new Necrom Chapter and Arcanist class. 

First Look at Altheia: The Wrath of Aferi

The Tokyo Game Show introduced a brand new action adventure game called Altheia: The Wrath of Aferi. Developed by two brothers, Andrea Marsili and Marco Marsili, they are bring their most ambitious project to life.

The duo were inspired by Hayao Miyazaki and Mamoru Hosoda films. Reflective in the art style, Altheia: The Wrath of Aferi will have the player solve puzzles, explore temples, and fight void monsters.
