Getting old is part of life, but the former professional bodybuilder and famous action star Arnold Schwarzenegger finds it difficult to accept and live with it. While aging can be both a blessing and a curse, the Terminator star somehow leans more towards the latter.
Schwarzenegger recently opened up about the current stage of his life and how he is dealing with the seemingly unavoidable part of nature called aging. He also remarked that seeing the changes in his body makes him feel quite sad.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Not Happy With His Aging Physique
Appearing on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, The Expendables actor Arnold Schwarzenegger candidly revealed how he struggles to accept that his body is no longer the same as when he started his career as a bodybuilder. He admitted:
“I kind of smile because every day I do look in a mirror and I say, ‘Yep, you suck. Look at this body. Look at the spectral muscles that used to be firm, and perky, and really powerful. Now they’re just hanging there. I mean, what the hell is going on here?’”
The actor is clearly devastated by the fact that there is nothing he can do anymore to revert the events that brought changes in his body. Every time he looks in the mirror, all he can see is an aged man. Schwarzenegger continued:
“It’s sad also because I say to people, it’s one thing to see yourself get older, and more and more out of shape, but most of the people have never been in shape. So, what does it mean getting out of shape? They’ve always looked at a sh**ty body.”
He also lamented the fact that he never imagined this would happen to him when he was younger and at the height of his career. The Predator actor further added:
“I never, ever thought about that when I was like 30 or 40 years old, that this is going to happen, that one time we’re going to look at this body, and it still looks better than a majority of bodies, but I mean, it just sucks.”
For someone who was hailed for possessing a supreme build, Schwarzenegger is quite displeased that he no longer sees the toned muscles and veins in his body, as if the clock instantly rolled forward to 50 years.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Admits Becoming “Vulnerable”
Because of his age, Arnold Schwarzenegger maintains a healthy diet and lifestyle, especially after his heart surgery in 1997. This became his wake-up call and a reminder of his mortality as well. The True Lies star admitted in the same conversation via The Howard Stern Show:
“This was the first time where I felt kind of vulnerable. All of a sudden, there was dialogue like that, life is not anymore the same as when it was like 30 years old or 40 years old, where you could do anything.”
Despite all the changes, Schwarzenegger chooses to tackle the challenges that come his way with confidence and positivity. Even though he’s already 76 years old, he claims he’s “full of energy” and “full of enthusiasm.”
