Off-screen, actor John Malkovich has never courted controversy other than his short affair with actress Michelle Pfeifer in the 80s. He was a resident of France, having worked ten years in the theater industry until 2003 when he left the country due to tax reasons. He has also been vocally apolitical, saying that he has not voted since 1972.

John Malkovich, in an interview with The Guardian, revealed a very human side of the actor when he revealed an embarrassing moment that happened to him in Paris when he was checked into the Hotel Caron. He said,

“Recently, at the Hotel Caron in Paris, I got up to use the bathroom one night and found myself out in the hallway instead. But that is one of a million: I am a constant source of embarrassment to myself.”

The actor also revealed in the same interview that he found himself lazy and unserious, expressing how he could have achieved a lot more than what he already has if he had put in the effort.
