Samuel L. Jackson is a powerful actor. He has proven time and again that no role is a challenge for him because of how smoothly he ends up playing it. No role is an object of difficulty but more of an opportunity to expand his own horizons. However, to attain that kind of autonomy, he learned how to say no and how to stand up for himself. While speaking with The Guardian, he explained how it was important to stay in touch with who he is.
“We don’t compromise who we are to do the things we do. It’s imperative that we be who we are. It’s not like we’ve never heard: ‘You’ll never work in this town again.’”
The actor revealed that there have often been moments in his career where he was asked to bend according to the will of the directors. Even while on other jobs, he was threatened with not being allowed to work in the same town again. All of that came because he refused to let go of who he was as a person. It was not Hollywood that was to define him but Jackson himself who was to stand as a face of Hollywood.

In the same interview with The Guardian, Samuel L. Jackson’s wife, LaTanya Richardson talked about how the actor’s vigorous personality was not something that was born overnight. She confirmed that there can often be moments when he finds himself on the verge of making decisions he could later regret.
“You’re hardcore but you’re not that belligerent without a reason.”
This made even Jackson confirm that it is his wife and daughter who keep him in check, adding that he has to consider again and again before sending any text.
