Guillermo del Toro is one of the visionary filmmakers of this generation, who has produced several innovative and intricately fantastical projects. In spite of having a charming personality, and giving several smash-hit blockbusters, some people believe he is too overrated. However, most critics and a majority of viewers believe he is a creative genius when it comes to making films consisting of horror, fantasy, and monsters.
Some of his most popular works include films such as Pacific Rim, Cronos, Nightmare Alley, Hellboy, and many more. A majority of Guillermo del Torro’s works are immensely popular and when Guillermo del Toro revealed that he had once pitched a Star Wars spin-off film about Jabba the Hut. However, Lucasfilm decided to scrap off his idea. But Toro was not having it as he took a subtle jibe at the production company on Twitter, and fans are loving it.
Guillermo del Toro Taunts Disney For Scrapping off his Star Wars Project
During an exclusive interview with Collider, Guillermo del Torro was asked, “How close did you actually come to being in the director’s chair helming the Star Wars film?” Toro gave a cheeky reply mentioning that his unreleased Star Wars film was The Rise and Fall of Jabba the Hut, but his idea got scrapped.
“We had the rise and fall of Jabba the Hutt, so I was super happy. We were doing a lot of stuff, and then it’s not my property, it’s not my money, and then it’s one of those 30 screenplays that goes away. Sometimes I’m bitter, sometimes I’m not. I always turn to my team and say, ‘Good practice, guys. Good practice. We designed a great world. We designed great stuff. We learned.’”
However, Guillermo del Torro was not happy about his film getting canceled and he shared a post with the caption “Separated at birth”, mocking Disney and Lucasfilm for scrapping his spin-off film.

A fan supports the filmmaker stating how they would become a billionaire just to see the film come to life.
I’m going to become a billionaire, buy Star Wars, just to make this happen.

Another fan states how they are immensely interested in watching the spin-off film, and it should take place.
We all want to see that film – make it so!

A fan questions the reasons for the movie getting scrapped and if Disney had continued with the idea, it would have led to wonderful world-building.
Why was such an awesome idea scrapped? Hutts have enormous life spans so the potential for world building for the SW universe would be huge. This is another example of what happens when MBA’s have control over art. Disney should be publicly owned to end their nonsense.

While fans were asking for a Jabba the Hut movie, a fan commented how Guillermo del Toro compared himself to one of the strongest species in all of Star Wars.
you guys think its funny but he is literally comparing himself to one of the most powerful species in all of star wars, he is not being funny he is showing off

Another fan mentions how a Jabba the Hut movie has the potential to be one of the best spin-off films of the Star Wars franchise if Guillermo del Torro is given creative freedom.
Jabba the Hutt is such a great character. If you were given full creative control, you could’ve made a film that easily stood on the same level as The Last Jedi and George Lucas’ oeuvre. If Disney had any brains at all, they’d respect and collaborate, not control and dominate.

While fans supported the idea of the spin-off film, Guillermo del Torro learned something valuable while working on the project.
Guillermo del Torro Learned Something Meaningful While Developing The Jabba the Hutt Film
In the same interview with Collider, Guillermo del Torro mentions that while working on the secret project, he learned something extremely valuable in life. He mentioned that when life sends something your way, you get to learn something from it, and he asks meaningful questions to come up with a clearer perspective.
“You can never be ungrateful with life. Whatever life sends you, there’s something to be learned from it. So, you know, I trust the universe, I do. When something doesn’t happen, I go, “Why?” I try to have a dialogue with myself. “Why didn’t it happen?” And the more you swim upstream with the universe, the less you’re gonna realize where you’re going.”
Even though Guillermo del Torro was excited, and so were the fans Jabba the Hutt is one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise. However, there remains a possibility that in the near future, Lucasfilm will realize their mistake and hire Guillermo del Toro to continue with the idea, they once axed.
