Tom Hardy played real-life criminal Charles Bronson in the 2008 film Bronson. The convicted criminal is infamous for being an extremely dangerous and violent man who frequently fought with his inmates and prison guards. Hardy visited Bronson frequently and talked to him to get to know him as much as possible about his life and to get to know him as a person.

After the film’s release, Hardy was banned from visiting Bronson. His son George Bamby told the Anything Goes with James English Podcast,

“I don’t think he’s spoke to Tom for a couple of years, but it’s like anything with Charlie. Tom was really nice to him, because obviously he wanted to do the film and he went to see and learn all about him and all the rest of it. But since Bronson came out, the prison service have banned Tom from visiting. Well, because he’d just brought a film out, Bronson. And it’s a fucking Hollywood blockbuster and it’s all over the place and everyone knows it. They don’t want prisoners being portrayed into being big movie stars.”

Hardy’s portrayal of Bronson received acclaim from critics and audiences. This was the beginning of Hardy taking on intense and chaotic characters that are complicated and layered.

Austin Butler and Tom Hardy are starring the the upcoming Jeff Nichols film The Bikeriders. Butler recently sang praises of his co-star and expressed his awe of Hardy’s ability to switch between his intense and normal side when filming the flick. He told Interview Magazine,

“It was nice to go to something that felt more independent and play in that space for a bit. But one of the things I was thinking about earlier, when you were talking about that relaxation on set, was that Tom Hardy surprised me. I pictured him to be this grizzly bear, always serious. And really, he’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. He’d be joking around until action is called and then go into being the most intense guy I’d ever seen.

I learned a lot from Tom. It reminds me of you, where you can be in that relaxed place where you’re receptive to your environment, and then when the time comes, you can click into what the scene demands.”

The film was previously scheduled to be released in theaters on December 1, 2023. But due to the ongoing actors strikes, it has been delayed to an unspecified date. It is safe to say that it will be released sometime in 2024.
