Even though Netflix’s One Piece Live Action has been available for nearly two months, the numbers continue to grow. The series drew all One Piece fans together and became the best live-action adaption series of any manga or anime. It was quickly incorporated into the popular 2023 series. One of the reasons the series was so successful was because it had some of the hardest-working cast members who performed their characters to perfection, especially their action scenes.
The series stunt coordinators Koji Kawamoto and Franz Spilhaus when talking about their experience while filming with the cast, explained the one member who did the most hard work and made his action scenes look easy. It was Taz Skylar, who plays Sanji in the One Piece Live-Action series.
Koji Kawamoto and Franz Spilhaus Talk About the Hardest Working Straw Hat
While talking to GamerBraves, One Piece live-action stunt coordinators Kawamoto and Spilhaus shared their experience about working with the cast on the sets of the live-action. They also explained how they had to train the members for the stunning action sequences seen in the series. While talking about their work, they stated that the most hard-working member on the set was Taz Skylar. Spilhaus said:
“The cast was so motivated and keen to do the show justice that they all put 100% every day to make it look amazing, and for an awesome stunt coordinator, so we loved them all. If I had to choose one who was the most hard working of all though it would be Taz, as he had to learn this skill from scratch and he spent hours and hours perfecting his craft.”
He explained that Taz had to learn every skill from scratch and he worked hard to perfect the craft and it was visible in his performance as Sanji in the series.
Taz Skylar’s Training for One Piece Live-Action
Skylar had to practice stunt fighting without using his hands to portray Sanji as he appears in the original manga. Sanji, a chef, avoids using his hands in combat for fear of damaging them. In the show, Skylar performed his kicking stunts. Skylar started with two hours of training per day, which he immediately discovered wasn’t going to be enough. As a result, his training schedule was increased to four hours, then to five hours per day. He ended up flying his trainer to South Africa to exercise for longer periods each day.
To effectively represent Sanji on-screen, Skylar put in 10 hours of battle training per day. This was certainly one of the toughest moments for Skylar. But his hard work and practice helped him bring the role to fruition and made the fans fall in love with the character.
