Konami announced Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 at the PlayStation showcase earlier this year. The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 features the first three installments in the Metal Gear Solid series that is Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and launches on October 24, 2023.
The collection will launch on multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch with bonus content and regional versions of the games, but these games will face several issues upon launch including running the games at higher resolutions and framerate drops. Konami has now explained that it will address all such issues with a post-launch update.
Konami Will Iron Out Issues With Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 Post-Launch
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 features Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater as well as Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. The collection will additionally bring bonus content such as a digital soundtrack, digital graphic novel, and more. These titles can also be bought separately but bonus content will not be available.
Konami has confirmed to IGN that the titles, when launching on modern platforms, will have various issues but it will soon bring a patch post-launch to fix the issues. The patch will fix issues with Metal Gear and Snake’s Revenge NES port’s bonus videos as the subtitle’s timings not syncing with the audio.
The patch will also bring several visual options in the Master Collection games such as a CRT scanline filter and provide players the ability to change the pixel aspect ratio. Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 will be getting the ability to switch between windowed and full-screen modes with the patch update. Players will be able to switch the modes from the options menu on the title screen.
Konami also stated that bug fixes are planned with the patch for Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3. It specifically mentioned that Metal Gear Solid 2 has an issue where the game significantly slows down in a few cutscenes, therefore, the company will bring a patch to reduce the processing load.
Metal Gear Solid 2 also faces delay in the timing for certain visual effects and a patch will be brought to correct it to match the game. Other than that, the patch update will also allow players to switch between windowed and full-screen mode from the options menu is due in a future update.
Metal Gear Solid 2 has some other issues such as subtitle typos for the original game versions of England, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain (EFIGS) EU. Moreover, the timing for a scene and background music to trigger in a certain cutscene is different from the original game, which will be fixed in a future update. MGS3 will also get a patch adding the ability to switch between windowed and full-screen mode.
Konami hyped up the fans of the Metal Gear franchise worldwide with the announcement of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1. However, it later faced backlash after it released the framerate and the resolution details for the games and fans were disappointed to see that Metal Gear Solid 1 is locked at 30fps.
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 was announced with Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake which as per the leaks is being developed on Unreal Engine and create an immersive experience that the franchise has delivered over the years. Konami has not yet given a specific release date for the patch update to the master collection.
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 releases for all major platforms including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. PC players will need a controller to play Metal Gear Solid 1 as the game does not have keyboard and mouse support.
