Zack Snyder is gearing up for the release of his two-part space epic Rebel Moon. The first part will be named Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire while the second part will be named Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver. It seems that the world of Rebel Moon is expanding as Snyder recently announced a prequel comic miniseries that will serve as a backstory establishing the lore and the world of Rebel Moon.

The comic miniseries will be called Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe and it will be published by Titan Comics, written by Magdalene Visaggio, and drawn by Clark Bint. The comic will be set five years before the events of the films. Snyder said this about the comic series, (via CBR)

“I’m excited to collaborate with Mags to explore the rich and complex backstory of the Bloodaxe siblings. In REBEL MOON: HOUSE OF THE BLOODAXE, fans will get to discover their motivation, as well as the genesis of the rebellion.”

Visaggio also talked about the comic being a Shakespearean tragedy, saying (via CBR)

“It’s all extremely personal, a family in conflict with its patriarch who is in conflict with himself at a moment when they need to be united. It’s a story about failure and the consequences of failure.”

The official synopsis of the comic series reads (on Titan Comics)

“As war is looming on the horizon on the planet Shasu, the leader of the Bloodaxe family is conflicted between living up to his father’s domineering legacy and maintaining the peace. It is up to him to settle the conflicts within himself, and his family, before the entire planet erupts in war.”

It will be an interesting read as the book will delve deeper into the workings of the world that Snyder is creating. The first issue of the comic will be released on January 10, 2024.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon is releasing in two parts. The epic space opera boasts an original creation and a fascinating world full of interesting characters and stories. Thus, Netflix and Snyder will release a special director’s cut version of the films that is almost close to an hour of extra content for each film. In a recent Netflix Tudum interview, he said,

“The director’s cut is close to an hour of extra content, so I think it’s a legitimate extended universe version. You really get to see a lot. It’s just more painted-in all the way. The director’s [cut] is a settle-in deep dive, which I have notoriously done throughout my career. I don’t know how I got into this director’s cut thing, but what I will say about it is that, for me, the director’s cuts have always been something I had to fight for in the past and nobody wanted it.

It was this bastard child that I was always trying to put together because they felt like there was a deeper version. And with Netflix, we shot scenes just for the director’s cut. So in that way, it’s really a revelation because it gives that second kick at the can for big fans.”

The first part of the series Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire is set to release on December 22, 2023, and the second film Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, will release on April 19, 2024, on Netflix.
