Alan Wake 2 will get two paid expansions, Night Springs and The Lake House, with both expansions adding a new story. The two DLCs will allow players to play as both Saga and Alan Wake, while also allowing players to take on numerous other roles who will also become playable characters.

A short description of both the expansion packs have been revealed by Remedy Entertainment in Alan Wake 2‘s FAQ page on their website, as follows:

Expansion 1, titled Night Springs has the following description.

Visions and dreams. Fiction is written and coming true. Fiction collapses and remains just words on a page. These are those stories… in Night Springs.

Players will be able to assume the role of several familiar characters in multiple self-contained episodes of Night Springs, a fictional TV show that’s set in the world of Alan Wake. Night Springs is a fictional television series that parodies Twilight Zone with episodes scattered throughout the first game, for players to find and view.

Expansion 2, titled The Lake House has the following description:

The Lake House is a mysterious facility situated on the shores of Cauldron Lake set up by an independent government organization to conduct secret research… until something goes wrong.

Gamers who played the first game will be familiar with the Lake House, a mysterious facility situated on the shores of Cauldron Lake. Players embark on two separate adventures while playing as both Saga Anderson and Alan Wake as the fictional world once again collides with reality.

Those familiar with the spinoff, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare will be familiar with the second expansion, where Wake is caught in a TV show. At the same time, an evil doppelganger version of himself, Mr. Scratch, brings darkness to the fictional town of Night Springs by creating and changing reality.

New Game+ Mode Will Feature a New Alternative Narrative

Alan Wake 2‘s New Game+ mode will bring new alternative narratives.

Remedy announced a New Game+ will be coming after launch, although they did not reveal a release schedule for it. The New Game+ mode is said to retain all weapons and upgrades unlocked by players in the main campaign. There is also said to be a new Nightmare difficulty level in the mode, with a new alternative narrative, including new Manuscript pages and new video content.

The first game also featured Manuscript pages exclusive to the Nightmare difficulty. It’s unclear whether or not a similar approach will be brought to the New Game+ mode in the sequel as well. Critics have already rated the game generally favorable with a score of 88 at the time of writing.

Communications Director at Remedy, Thomas Puha posted on X yesterday about how the studio tried to underpromise and overdeliver on the game with regard to the PC requirements for the game and also in regard to the performance mode of the game. When the game’s PC requirements came out, it sounded quite beefy leading many to fear missing out on the game.

While Puha’s post sounded confusing to many, the game is expected to run fine on systems running older GPUs and on lower frame rates. As the weekend approaches, more user reviews are expected which will clarify things even more.

Alan Wake 2 is sure to keep gamers engaged even after the game’s release with the two new DLCs and the New Game+ mode to look out for.
