Despite her talent to do some of the most unique accents, speech is not something that always came easy to her. Being one of the most respected actresses, it would be an interesting fact to learn that Blunt grew up with a stutter, one that followed her to this day in the form of French. It became a nightmare scenario for her when she visited Paris with her friends.
Emily Blunt had a Stutter
Emily Blunt once revealed on The Graham Norton Show (via The Dusty Mind 20) that growing up, the actress had a horrible stutter, impairing her ability to talk properly. She explained how it came out, especially when she spoke French.

“I got really nervous speaking French and I actually used to have a stutter when I was a kid. And it’s still the way that I still stutter when I have to speak French. It comes out when I try to speak French.”
She stated that despite having grown up, the stutter did not completely leave her. French became a distant enemy of hers no matter how smoothly she spoke in any other language or accent. Her stutter would always return the moment she began speaking in that language.
Emily Blunt Got Stuck Speaking French
While talking on The Graham Norton Show, Emily Blunt revealed that it was during her visit to Paris with John Krasinski and two other friends that the entire fear of speaking French came rushing back to her. She was asked to call for a taxi, and when she went to speak at the front desk, things did not go accordingly.

“We went to Paris for New Year once and you know my now husband and our two friends were like, ‘Go on and find us a taxi ’cause we need to get to this place.’ I said, ‘Oh God please don’t make me.’ I hadn’t had the guts to tell them actually I do still stutter.” She continued, “so I went to go at the front desk. I was like, I could say everything apart from the word ‘Taxi’ apparently.”
Blunt went on to speak in French but could not remember the word for ‘Taxi.’ This became an embarrassing confrontation for her because she was already stuttering. People who speak multiple languages often find themselves confused over one word or another. The case was no different for Blunt. The person ended up understanding what she was trying to say, only to find out that the translation for Taxi was… taxi.
