For years Suits ranked in the top legal dramas on TV and now it has been dominating streaming platforms as well with its well-crafted and perfectly constructed storyline. Even years after its end in 2019, fans love the show for the way the story unfolds and keeps the excitement going. While much of the show has been due to the brilliant creativity of its writers and showrunner Aaron Korsh, there are certain instances that were directly inspired by moments in Korsh’s life.
One of the most chilling scenes of Louis Litt, in which he brutally fires an employee in front of a newly hired employee was inspired by Korsh’s university days.
The Harrowing Suits Scene Involving Louis Litt
Louis Litt played by Rick Hoffman has always been a pretty interesting character in the legal drama Suits. At first, the character appears to be highly ambitious and competitive, which he is, but later he is depicted as a socially awkward person who has his own dark demons to fight. Having one of the most satisfying character arcs in the show, he is shown as outright evil at first.
During one of the scenes in the pilot, Litt is scene firing an associate in front of the newly hired employee Mike Ross, the aim of which is to instill a sense of fear in Mike’s heart that his job might be gone at any moment. However, what Mike is oblivious to is that the employee who was fired was in on the act and actually worked in the mailroom.
Furthermore, it was Louis Litt’s tactic which he does and enjoys every year so that his employees could be terrified of him and always be in line. It was this scene in the show Suits that was inspired by the creator Aaron Korsh’s university days.
Suits Scene Was Inspired By Aaron Korsh’s Personal Experiences
Louis Litt has always been kind of an insecure character, who despite his flaws, remained extremely loyal to his firm. So, his scare tactic was a way to make all his employees have that same level of commitment and loyalty towards the organization. But this ‘scare tactic scene’ wasn’t an idea that Aaron Korsh had himself or even experienced, instead, he based the whole scene on his roommate’s experience during his college days (via Nerdist).
“I had a roommate that went to a fraternity. And he pledged and he came home one night and he was like, ‘Oh my god. One guy refused to do a shot and they yelled at him and they kicked him out right there on the spot.’ And he was petrified. And it turns out that guy was a plant. He was like a sophomore, not a freshman, and they do that every year to make the pledges realize if they don’t do what they’re told, they could get dropped.”
And that is how Litt’s chilling scene came about, making it one of the most iconic scenes in the show.
