Jacob Elordi is one of the most talented actors to come out of Hollywood in recent times. Though being criminally underused in his breakout film, The Kissing Booth, projects like Euphoria, Deep Water, and most recently, Priscilla, helped him prove just how good he is at what he does, playing some of the most psychologically complicated, and morally conflicting characters to enter mainstream media.

With this, one would expect psychologically dark characters to be personalities that would be right up Elordi’s alley. This may not be the case, as a recent interview revealed that he rejected a role because he thought this was too dark. The role in question makes this rejection all the more weird, as it was that of the symbol of hope, Superman himself.

Jacob Elordi Refused The Role of Superman

During a recent interview with GQ, The widely adored actor, Jacob Elordi, spoke in great detail about his widely adored and critically acclaimed film, Priscilla. During this, he also revealed the project that he was asked to be a part of and rejected. The actor revealed that he was asked to read for James Gunn’s upcoming, highly anticipated film Superman: Legacy. When he heard this, he immediately said no.

“Well, they asked me to read for Superman,” Elordi said. “That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me.”

He mentioned the reason for this, stating that these types of projects are simply too much for him, and playing the role of Superman would be too dark of a role for him. This comment has raised quite a lot of eyebrows for many reasons, starting with the fact that Superman is, perhaps, as good of a character as it gets, being the personified symbol of hope, and everything good about humanity. Another reason why this is extremely odd is the fact that playing a dark character is something that has never stopped Elordi from playing them, with the perfect example, being that of Nate Jacobs from Euphoria.

Fans Troll Him For This

After this comment made its way to the Internet, many fans of the character were quick to go onto Twitter to express their opinions on the matter. Many pointed out the irony of this statement, as mentioned before, stating that this comment is extremely ironic, coming from the person who played one of the most conflicting characters in Euphoria. Others pointed out how Superman and the word dark are antonyms, raising the question that perhaps he was thinking of Homelander from The Boys, a darker, unhinged take on the Man of Steel.

Some of them were even more confused with the fact that Jacob Elordi was asked to play the role of Superman, considering he would not be the best, most accurate choice for this character, with many questioning, if you would be able to embody the spirit of Superman. They added that he in the past has played so many morally conflicting characters and done it so well that seeing him play this character would simply not fit.
