2023’s The Flash involved many cameos from different actors who were part of DC’s history as the film dealt with the multiverse and the ramifications of time travel. Actors like Michael Keaton, George Clooney, and Ben Affleck reprised their roles as their versions of Batman in the film.

One surprise cameo was from Nicolas Cage as Superman (as a nod to his canceled film with Tim Burton). In an interview with Yahoo, Cage claims that the scene involving his Superman was not what he filmed on set. While he didn’t blame director Andy Muschietti or AI for this switch-up, he concludes that the makers somehow altered the scene with CGI. Cage said,

“What I was supposed to do was literally just be standing in an alternate dimension, if you will, and witnessing the destruction of the universe. Kal-El was bearing witness [to] the end of a universe, and you can imagine with that short amount of time that I had, what that would mean in terms of what I can convey.

I had no dialogue [so had to] convey with my eyes the emotion. So that’s what I did. I was on set for maybe three hours. When I went to the picture, it was me fighting a giant spider. I did not do that. That was not what I did. I don’t think it was [created by] AI. It was CGI, OK, so that they could de-age me, and I’m fighting a spider. I didn’t do any of that, so I don’t know what happened there.”

Fans were quick to back up the actor’s claims on X and pointing shots at the makers of the film for causing the switch-up. These are some of the comments from fans regarding the matter,

Fans have also criticized the cartoony-looking CGI in the film which the makers defended by saying it was a deliberate effort. Cage’s claims are a problematic example of how big productions can take a different route without informing the actor. The film was a big flop at the box office, with Ezra Miller’s stint as Flash also in limbo.
