The main character of Eiichiro Oda’s iconic magnum Opus One Piece’s main character Monkey D. Luffy has faced and won almost every battle against some of the strongest characters of the series. He has proved his worth as the main character of one of the best-selling mangas and one of the biggest anime series of all time.
He has defeated Pirates, Warlords, Navy officials, and even a Yonko. And now, he is fighting one of the Gorosei who is on an entirely different level. He has attained the title of Yonko by challenging almost every villain from the series. Not only that, he has also declared war against the World Government proving his strength and confidence in his power.
However, there is one character, who was probably the toughest fight for Luffy and he was the scariest character the Straw Hat captain ever faced. His name was Magellan and he was the warden of Impel Down. Luffy was never able to defeat him and was almost dead after facing him.
The Former Chief Warden of Impel Down – Magellan
Magellan holds the position of vice warden at Impel Down. Formerly the chief warden, he was demoted to vice warden and replaced by Hannyabal after he was unable to put an end to the jail’s only mass breakout.
Magellan consumed the Doku Doku no Mi, a Devil Fruit akin to Paramecia that gave him the ability to produce and manipulate poison. He can create a wide range of poisons, from an average irritant to a potent paralyzing agent to a lethal and extremely caustic toxin. He is capable of creating these toxins in both liquid and gaseous forms.
Magellan is much stronger than the average person, even in the absence of his Devil Fruit abilities. Magellan easily defeated Luffy in combat because he was much stronger than the pirate. He was probably one of the strongest opponents Luffy had ever faced.
When Luffy Faced Magellan – One of The Scariest Characters
When Luffy faced Magellan in Impel Down he was destroyed during their first fight. Luffy tried to attack Magellan multiple times but failed every time as he was made of poison. After an intense fight, Luffy could not hit him properly even once showcasing the strength of the former warden of Impel down.
Magellan dominated the fight and ended it within a few minutes. After the fight, Luffy was drenched in poison and he almost died because of it. Magellan is probably the scariest character Luffy has ever faced. When Magellan is furious, he conjures up a devil-like creature with his devil fruit that is coated in Kinjite, a red poison. This form is one of the scariest devil fruit abilities ever seen in One Piece.
