After the phenomenal ending of Loki season 2 and Kevin Feige confirming that Robert Downey Jr. will not return to the MCU following his demise in Avengers: Endgame, fans have started comparing the two characters. A recent debate took over social media about the sacrifices made by Loki and Iron Man.
Following the conclusion of the Disney+ show’s season 2 with a rush of emotion among fans, where Tom Hiddleston’s character and his allies take on a big threat, fans believe his sacrifices are greater than any other’s. Marvel fans believe Loki has turned into MCU’s most powerful superhero, beating Iron Man.
Loki’s Ultimate Sacrifices in Season 2 Finale
The Disney+ series featuring Tom Hiddleston has been making a buzz on social media, ever since its release. But the craze for the show peaked especially during the season 2 finale where the titular character sacrificed companionship for the sake of the multiverse. Fulfilling the most consequential purpose possible, the character became the fans’ favorite superhero.
Loki had previously tried to stop the universe from collapsing by fixing the TVA’s temporal loom and preventing a meltdown, but he failed each time. Eventually, he admitted defeat and chose to sacrifice himself to save every universe. Navigating a morally questionable path in pursuit of his “glorious purpose”, Loki’s sacrifice not only saved the lives in one universe but those in infinite universes.
Walking toward the temporal loom, the God of Mischief grabbed the very fabric of space-time and built a throne of his own, weaving the threads together and creating the legendary world tree Yggdrasil. By doing so, he essentially crowned himself master of the multiverse, watching over every timeline as a lonely god.
Loki Became a Superhero, Beating Iron Man
The reason why Loki’s sacrifice is considered one of MCU’s greatest gambles is because he gave up something that he held closest to his heart. It took him centuries to come to the realization that all he wanted was companionship, and eventually, it was taken from him while being handed over the responsibility of maintaining the lives and free will of the MCU’s entire multiverse.
Doomed to remain in solitude, Loki’s sacrifice is unlike any other. This particular reason even began debate among fans on X, to determine who is greater; Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief or Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man. Since both the characters made major sacrifices in their own way, fans are now arguing over who deserves more respect.
Loki, without hesitation. Iron Man sacrificed his life, but Loki spent lifetimes trying to save those he cared about before placing himself into exile with his only comfort being the knowledge that it was the only way.

Iron man di*ed but saved the universe and Loki sacrificed his freedom and remains stuck at his "throne" holding every single past, present and future timeline saving the lives of an infinite number of variants.

Apparently, throughout the debate, it seems Loki is getting a clear win. Following his inconceivable sacrifice of being an observer perpetually consigned to lifelong solitude, the God of Mischief is now being hailed as MCU’s most powerful superhero. Further, since Kevin Feige confirmed that Downey Jr. won’t be returning, fans simply have one thing to look up to – if Loki will impact the multiversal consequences in Avengers: Secret Wars.
