Gojo Satoru’s connection to cats in Jujutsu Kaisen may have a deeper meaning rather than just being a meme. The symbol could be a hint about the return of the Special Grade Sorcerer, considering its meanings with Buddhism.
A few years ago, ‘Catoru’ Gojo became a trend when a JJK fan posted a picture of his cat dressed in the character’s trademark style. The fandom has since associated cats with the blue-eyed sorcerer. Most notably, both Jujutsu Kaisen seasons have featured scenes in which the four-legged furry creature has been compared to Gojo symbolically.
Jujutsu Kaisen Fan Theory Explains Gojo Satoru’s Connection To Cats
While anime watchers expect the return of Gojo Satoru from the Prison Realm, manga readers already know the fate that awaits the sorcerer. The Limitless user was killed by Ryomen Sukuna in Chapter 236 following his release from captivity. Fans were left heartbroken by the result but they haven’t completely ruled out the possibility of the sorcerer’s return.
On the messaging platform X, @Giusydev96 noted the constant references to cats with Gojo Satoru since the beginning of the Jujutsu Kaisen. The user creates new theories to specify that Gojo’s return is nigh. In one such post, the ‘Gojologist’ mentioned how cats were supposed to have seven lives and were a symbol of the highest manifestation of wisdom.
Gojo’s connection to cats is seen in the opening of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 when a black cat is depicted to have a blue eye similar to the sorcerer. Later, at the end of the Hidden Inventory arc, the character is seen observing a white cat while holding an umbrella.
Basing the theory on the ‘7 lives’ concept (in some cultures, cats are believed to have nine lives), the Jujutsu Kaisen fan mentioned “Number 7 symbolises completeness and perfection“, which correlates to Gojo’s being the former best sorcerer in the Kaisenverse. It was also in favor of the theory that Satoru could get reincarnated based on Buddhist principles.
Cats are known for their vitality. They are also considered to be a source of supernatural powers. Could it be a symbol of Gojo Satoru’s return and his eventual transcendence of the boundaries of death? We will find out once the manga reveals more about his location after his death.

Gojo Satoru’s Return May Not Be The Best Direction For Jujutsu Kaisen
Gojo’s return to action will undoubtedly shift the odds to the heroes’ favor. However, Jujutsu Kaisen has gained a good vantage point with its description of villains being close to eliminating the good guys. A part of the thrill of the series is that nobody knows which side will Gege Akutami favor as the manga seemingly progresses toward its final arcs.
Moreover, Satoru Gojo has already passed the torch to Yuji Itadori. He believed that the main character of Jujutsu Kaisen could surpass him. As of Chapter 244, Yuji is battling 20 Finger Form Sukuna alongside Hiromi Higurama, making it crystal clear that he is the chosen one to end Sukuna.
The most disappointing aspect of the blue-eyed sorcerer’s death is that his eventual return from the Prison Realm only led to an unceremonious death. Gege Akutami refrained from the classic ‘return stronger and win’ scenarios as showcased in shonen like Dragon Ball and Bleach.
