On Saturday, December 9, 2023, the official rankings for Japanese Animation TV shows from November 27 to December 3 were released. They included popular shows like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, One Piece, and Detective Conan.
The data shows that the new slow-paced anime, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, is becoming a favorite among fans. It’s doing better than popular anime like Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece.
Despite its recent popularity, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 wasn’t even among the top 10 most-watched anime on Japanese TV.
It didn’t make the list, possibly because it scored lower than Animated O-saru no George (Curious George), which had a rating of 2.0.
According to Video Research statistics, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End continued to outperform One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen, the margin between Frieren anime and Jujutsu Kaisen is significant.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Succeeds Greatly, Surpassing One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen
In the latest Japanese Animation TV ratings, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End got a rating of 3.7, and One Piece’s Egghead Island Arc got a 3.2. However, Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 can’t even make it to the top 10 most-watched list. The lowest-rated shows were Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure with 2.8 and Animated O-saru no George (Curious George) with 2.0.
Following those were One Piece, Crayon Shin-chan, Firefighter Daigo: Rescuer in Orange, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Doraemon, Chibi Maruko-chan, Detective Conan, and Sazae-san.
These ratings suggest that Frieren anime could be the best of the year. The fact that it outperformed popular anime like One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen is impressive. This indicates that Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has a dedicated fan base and a substantial viewership.
Frieren Anime Sparks Double the Interest of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Among Viewers
Japanese Animation TV estimates how many people watch a specific show by surveying households in Japan’s Kanto region. The numbers are then used to represent the people’s interests. The data suggests that almost twice as many people were interested in the Frieren anime compared to Jujutsu Kaisen season 2.
This is surprising, especially considering the recent controversy around Jujutsu Kaisen’s production schedule. It’s important to note that these statistics don’t include people who might have watched either anime later in the week.
Despite One Piece’s Wano Arc ending in episode 1085 and the story entering its final saga, the anime’s performance remains moderate. Shows like Frieren and Sazae-san are doing better in terms of rankings.
One reason for Frieren anime outranking One Piece might be because Frieren premiered first on the block, and episode 13 was highly anticipated among fans.
