Recently Crunchyroll announced the 8th annual Anime Awards which will honor various aspects of the anime industry that features series like One Piece, Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man and their characters, music, and much more. The nominees were also announced on January 20 for over 30 categories which included various famous anime series.
The Crunchyroll anime awards are widely regarded as the most extensive program specifically designed to recognize and celebrate the skill and creativity of Japanese animation, encompassing creators, musicians, and performers in both streaming and theatrical formats. Voting in all categories is now open to the public, and their website has the complete list of nominees.
Among these nominations, probably the most interesting category is for the best main character which features many prominent characters like Denji, Eren Jaeger, Thorfinn, and more. However, there is one contender among these nominations who is most deserving of this title. And this character is none other than Monkey D. Luffy, the protagonist of One Piece.
Luffy is Nominated for The Best Main Character
The Crunchyroll Anime Awards were first established in 2017 and have gained popularity over time. Every year, the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo, Japan hosts this well-known awards program, which is a global event. The eighth edition of the Crunchyroll Anime Award is taking place this year, and there are some intriguing nominees.
Among those nominations, the fan-favorite character Luffy has been nominated for the best main character category and he has some tough competition. Although many believe that Luffy is the most deserved character for the title as he has had the most progressive year in the anime industry.
He was not only able to unlock his Gear 5 technique, but he also defeated the strongest creature in the One Piece world and gained the title of Emperor of the Sea taking him one step closer to his goal of becoming the King of the Pirates. He has had the most growth among all the characters that have been nominated for the category.
Luffy’s Competition for the Title of 2024 Best Anime Main Character
According to Crunchyroll’s official website, along with Luffy from One Piece, the nominations for the Best Anime Main Character include Hitori Gotoh (Bocchi) from Bocchi The Rock!, Denji from Chainsaw Man, Eren Jaeger from Attack on Titan Final Season: The Final Chapters Special 1, Shigeo Kageyama (Mob) from Mob Psycho 100 III and Thorfinn from Vinland Saga Season 2.
The list includes some interesting characters who also have had a huge impact on the anime industry. Eren Jaeger was finally able to conclude his fight against the Titans, Denji was finally able to make his debut in the anime world, and Thorfinn was able to have significant growth. It will surely be a tough competition for the title.
However, it is upon fans to decide who deserves the title the most and it will be exciting to watch the race amongst some of the most popular anime main characters. The official results will be announced on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the live Anime Awards ceremony.
