Elden Ring’s massive world is nothing short of breathtaking and for a good reason. Much of what builds this world relates to the characters, families, and origins of darkness that came before the light. If you’re new to the game, there are thousands of pages worth of lore that will give you a better insight into what’s going on. But, for the sake of Shadow of the Erdtree, the game’s upcoming DLC, a theory focuses on one character in particular.
He’s no other than Miquealla, one of the most important characters in the game. Based on this theory, you might end up having some solid ideas about what the upcoming expansion might focus its story on.
Who is Miquella, and why does his story matter in Elden Ring?
Going with tradition, a Redditor posted a cryptic image on Elden Ring’s subReddit recently, giving us a few things to think about. Essentially, user CLXVII is asking the community to make a connection between Miquella and Roderika, two distinct characters in the game. Before diving into this theory, it’s important to understand who they are.
Flawed yet cherished by the people, Miquella was the ‘chosen one’ by the Two Fingers as the child who would succeed Queen Marika. Ideally, he would take up the crown and become the god of a new age. His importance to the Golden Order is an important factor here.
Eventually, Miquella’s connection to the Erdtree (and Haligtree) has many twists and turns, eventually leading to stories of the Tarnished making their way to him. Or at least, whatever remains of his story.
Regardless, the entire narrative arc here focuses on the impact of Miquella’s ambition and legacy for the Lands Between, giving birth to the possibility of a new arc that involves familial matters making their way into Shadow of the ErdTree.
So, what’s the deal with Roderika?
It’s not the first time that we’re witnessing a theory about Roderika’s origins. Two years ago, Redditor PeregrineMalcolm pointed out her relevance to Elden Ring’s present world. In their post, they highlighted the fact that Roderika was indeed a person belonging to royalty:
Roderika was royalty wherever she came from before being exiled, perhaps for inconvenient political reasons. Usually Tarnished are sent to the Lands Between because they saw Grace, but here it sounds like an excuse to ship out an unwanted heir or princess
While this post, just like the latest theory, was purely speculative, it did hint at something important.
Roderika’s appearance at the Roundtable Hold already proved her relevance to the overarching narrative, but her connections to Miquella may be a farfetched one. If this theory is proven correct, Roderika might act as the spiritual successor to Miquella.
And, if you’re up for more enigmatic tales from Roderika, here are a few lines of monologue from her:
Everyone who came with me. They crossed the sea for me. They fought, for me. Heh… Only to have their arms taken. Their legs taken. Even their heads…taken. Taken and stuck to the spider.
She doesn’t reveal information about her origins, but the way these words are put into a voice, it does seem to hold importance that may make it into Shadow of the Erdtree. What do you think of this theory? Is there a connection between Roderika and Miquella in Elden Ring? Let us know in the comments below.
