Brie Larson led 2023’s most underwhelming movie, The Marvels, as Marvel Studios’ big-budget project felt the brunt of superhero fatigue the hardest. The story about Carol Danvers’ fight against a Kree revolutionary cemented itself as the lowest-grossing MCU film of all time with a worldwide collection of $199.7 million.
As such, it’s not far-fetched to assume Larson may not be too keen to jump into another Marvel adventure swiftly. However, a recent Captain America: Brave New World rumor has left her fans a bit puzzled.
Industry Insider Reacts to the Claim of Brie Larson Joining Captain America 4
Having embraced his responsibilities as Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie‘s Sam Wilson is all set to return to the big screen with Captain America: Brave New World.
We are still nearly a year away from its scheduled release date of February 14, 2025, meaning Marvel Studios have plenty of time to make changes as they see fit through reshoots. A December report in Deadline claimed that the studio hired Matthew Orton to pen additional scenes and material.
Amid this, a rumor (via Kingspyk3) surfaced that the likes of Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac), and She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany) may show up in Captain America: Brave New World. Interestingly, Orton previously worked as a consulting producer for Isaac’s Disney+ series.
However, industry insider Daniel Richtman has quashed the suggestion, stating: “They’re not in it and won’t be in it.”
So far, all signs point to Captain America 4 revolving around just Sam and Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross (Harrison Ford) before Thunderbolts, the movie which is poised to open floodgates for several high-profile Marvel characters to join the drama.
As for Larson, the road remains wide open for her character to return to the franchise.
What Did Brie Larson Say About Her MCU Return?
The ending of The Marvels, which saw Dar-Benn getting disintegrated due to the power of both Quantum bands, didn’t hint that the journey is over for the three superheroes, including Carol.
Further, after the release of her movie, Larson spoke to Entertainment Tonight and teased fans by suggesting Captain Marvel will return to the MCU.
“I don’t want Marvel to come for me,” she admitted, “but there is something. There is definitely something, to answer your question, that I would want to say, but I am not going to so.”
At this stage, an Avengers movie seems like the most likely option for the Oscar winner’s character to make her return. In that regard, the next Avengers project on the Marvel slate is The Kang Dynasty, which is ironically facing an uncertain future after Jonathan Majors’ conviction.
