Fallout – the post-apocalyptic drama series based on the RPG franchise of the same name is at the cusp of release. Executive Produced by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy for Amazon Prime Video, the upcoming series will show us an Earth very different from what we know, invaded by nuclear technology. The series has been making headlines, as Fallout the game is one of Bethesda’s most popular franchises.

Another reason fans are looking forward to the release of the show is because so far, very few games that have been adapted into live-action have been able to do well among the audiences. But given both Joy and Nolan have worked on some really special projects till now, expectations are high.

Fallout: Difference In The Familiarity

In a recent conversation with producers Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, as well as actor Walton Goggins – who will be gracing the screens as the gunslinging bounty hunter – The Ghoul, we asked the trio their thoughts on the upcoming show. On being asked about their different approach to doing the show, by adding new stories to an already familiar world, Graham Wagner told FandomWire:

“It felt like the only way to do it, because everyone’s experience playing the game is a little different.”

Being an RPG, no doubt, players have multiple options they can opt for to play the game. For the TV show, things will be a little more one-dimensional, with a Vault dweller as a protagonist, a bounty hunter, and various other characters, with their own stories to tell. So even if it is a very familiar world, it is still going to be different with more stories added to the canon.

Jonathan Nolan Had No Idea About Fallout

Before he embarked on the journey with his executive partner, as well as partner in life, Lisa Joy, to bring Fallout to the small screen, Jonathan Nolan, who also directed the first three episodes of the show, had no idea about the RPG. He had his first playthrough with Fallout 3, and told IGN:

“I knew almost nothing about it, and could not believe the ambition, the scope, the scale, and all the different textures.”

But he said the tone of the game, which he described as “simultaneously epic, dramatic, dark, emotional, but also political, satirical and crazy, deeply funny – almost goofy,” attracted him to the universe, and now he is in the thick of it all.
