SUMMARY

  • The Fantastic Four will soon be making their debut in the MCU, ahead of which the comics have greatly exaggerated their powers.
  • Reed Richards has essentially turned into a multiverse being, making his body so mailable that he might be able to generate copies of himself.

Thor and Captain Marvel, at various points, have been labeled the strongest Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, showing great feats of strength at various points in their tenure as superheroes. Be it Captain Marvel’s fight against Thanos, or Thor’s battle with Hela, these characters have routinely proven themselves to be strong and competent fighters.

However, with a recent change in Marvel Comics, the Fantastic Four might have the Avengers beat, especially Reed Richards and Sue Storm (who have both served on the team). Reed Richards and Sue Storm were both exposed to a cosmic storm, which altered their bodies, giving Richards the power of a malleable body and Sue the ability to turn invisible.

However, these characters have studied their powers and pushed them to the limit. This has made Richards and Storm some of the strongest characters that Marvel has to offer, ahead of their debut in the MCU.

Reed Richards has taken his powers to the Multiverse

Reed Richards’ powers have never been the most ‘heroic’ type, especially compared to characters like the Human Torch or even the X-Men. However, above everything else, Reed Richards is a scientist, which means he thrives on study and experimentation, which applies to his own powers as well. While the character is largely relegated to just stretching himself, the character’s body is so thoroughly malleable, that Reed Richards is essentially an eldritch abomination that probably keeps a human form for the comfort of those around him.

Reed Richards’ powers are also something that has gone multiversal. The Maker, one of the many alternate versions of Reed Richards existed in multiple realities as the same connected person, when he was chopped up and distributed across the multiverse. Given that these powers are identical to what Reed Richards has, it is possible that Reed is one of the strongest characters in the Marvel Universe.

There is also the fact that in more recent issues of the comics, SHIELD has speculated that Reed could make a duplicate of himself, which makes the character even more powerful than he already is. Given that the MCU is heading towards a multiversal war with Secret Wars, Richards could not only be a tactical asset for whichever side he is on, but he could also be a powerhouse in the field of battle, given how creative the character can get with his powers.

Sue Storm can just turn off the sun on a whim

Sue Storm has a conventional battle-ready power that already makes her quite the operative in the field. The character can turn herself invisible but is also able to reflect light away from other places and other people. This makes her one of the most dangerous characters in the Marvel pantheon of heroes.

Sue Storm’s ability was so fear-inducing that the US Government labeled her a walking extinction event, before directing Maria Hill to arrest her, thanks to the potential threat that she poses to life on the planet.

Having this ability revealed ahead of her debut in the MCU, the Fantastic Four are shaping up to be juggernauts in their own right that could put all the heroes we have seen in the MCU to shame. Given that the X-Men are rumored to make their debut in the franchise soon, the Avengers might find themselves easily eclipsed by this influx of superheroes in the mainline MCU timeline.
