Assassin's Creed Shadows: Who Are Naoe and Yasuke?

Another video titled ‘Who Are Naoe and Yasuke?’ introducing the characters also got the same treatment. The video recorded 29,000 likes and 83,000 dislikes on the channel, with 1.1 million views. This shows that the fans are not happy and, if not addressed by the developer, may cost the game upon launch.

Fans Are Not Happy With the Black Samurai Protagonist

The main reason behind this backlash is the Black samurai in Japan, who is also the protagonist and is said to be based on a real-life historical figure called Yasuke. As per the records available, Yasuke was a man of African origin who served under the renowned Japanese warlord Nobunaga Oda, but nothing more is known about him other than that.

Fans on social media have said that they are not okay with the game featuring a Black protagonist when the franchise is finally going to Japan. Several players from all around the world have said that this character does not deserve to be in the game when the game is about Japan.

Although the character has been portrayed several times in the media, fans argue that his time in Japan is not properly documented. The game has historic settings, but as it is media, the developer is allowed to go around about the things in it, but this doesn’t seem to sit well with the fans.
