While the entirety of 2010s saw Marvel dominating the box office with each of their releases, since Endgame, reception to their output has been pretty mixed. Although the cinematic giant witnessed great highs with No Way Home and Guardians 3, the studio has also experienced its fair share of lows, especially with The Marvels, which became a historic bomb.
But it seems The Marvels‘ failure hasn’t impacted MCU’s plan for its upcoming Young Avenger film, and fans aren’t too thrilled by the recent update on its production.
Fans Are Seemingly Indifferent to the Upcoming Young Avengers Flick

A potential Young Avengers film has been on the MCU’s radar since the beginning of the multiverse saga, but there has been little movement on it, even though Marvel is deep into Phase 5. While The Marvels did tease the future of a new Avengers line-up, led by Iman Vellani‘s Kamala Khan, considering the movie bombed a the box office, the state of the potential release was again unclear. However, per scooper, @DanielRPK, Marvel Studios is set to get the ball rolling on the Avengers line-up and is reportedly eyeing the early 2025 window to start its filming.
But this report has failed to reinvigorate interest in the film among fans for a variety of reasons. First of all, we’re yet to get a confirmation on the roster for this new line-up, as apart from Kate Bishop and Kamala Khan, no member of the Young Avengers has been officially revealed. In contrast, during the early phases of the MCU, things organically led to the first Avengers film, as before the 2012 blockbuster, the MCU allowed fans to invest in these characters in the preceding films.

Furthermore, the current state of the MCU also doesn’t help, as there has been a barrage of mediocre releases in the last few years, which led to Bob Iger changing their approach to the MCU. And considering the roster, as of now, lacks some prominent star power, and fans are yet to become familiar with the new line of Earth Mightiest heroes, many are indifferent to the upcoming release.

However, this isn’t the lone Avengers movie we’ll be getting in the next few years, as for Avengers 5, the MCU is reportedly looking to incorporate a whopping 60 Marvel characters.

Avengers 5 is set to become one of MCU’s biggest productions to date, and the studio is reportedly not holding back with its roster, as fans might see 60 Marvel characters reprise their part in the film. But Disney has yet to attach a director to the project and per the Deadline, Deadpool & Wolverine filmmaker Shawn Levy is currently their top choice to helm the huge project.
While time will tell if Levy would be onboard to steer an Avengers flick, if the reports of him being MCU’s top choice for the job are true, it’s important to note that the director currently has a lot on his plate. Apart from Deadpool 3, which holds the potential to steer the MCU back on track, Levy is also set to be heavily involved in Netflix’s Stranger Things 5 as a director and executive producer.
Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theatres on 26 July 2024.
