Back in 1977, George Lucas released Episode IV – A New Hope to mark the beginning of a whole new era in the world of space operas. If anything, he made history and perfectly defined what cinematic masterpieces truly are with the first six movies (original and prequel trilogy) he curated the story for in the Star Wars saga. But then Disney acquired Lucasfilm, and that was that.
Ever since then, fans have gotten quite some remarkable pieces, but none come as close to perfection as the ones developed by Lucas. In fact, even George Lucas himself hasn’t had the best of praises for the projects that came afterward except for a few, with his review of the most controversial movie from the franchise, i.e., The Last Jedi, quite literally leaving fans in hysterics.
George Lucas Presents His Thoughts on The Last Jedi
Released in December 2017, Episode VIII – The Last Jedi is widely recognized as one of the most controversial movies (if not the controversial movie) from the Star Wars universe because of just how oddly disappointing it was, filmmaking and all, as some reviewers at WIRED put it.
But while fans and critics had quite a bit to say about it, they weren’t the only ones to do that.
As it turns out, the movie failed to enchant even the great George Lucas. In fact, if anything, the 80-year-old filmmaker cum philanthropist had a similar review of the movie as nearly everyone else, although his one was a lot shorter than the others.
This comes after @CultureCrave on X shared some of the reviews that Lucas had on the SW projects developed under Disney. This list had quite a few names, including Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, besides Episode VIII.
And while the mastermind behind this superhit space opera at least had quite a bit to say about the others, his words on TLJ were incredibly measured and limited.

This is because the only main thing he had to say about the 2017 Adam Driver-starrer was:
Thought it was “beautifully made.”
But there’s a complete quote about this too. As @fandommenacene1 shared on X, the entire thing that Lucas had said was:
There are a lot of movies that are badly made that I love and there a lot of movies that are just BEAUTIFULLY MADE but I don’t like them.
Nonetheless, this was still as un-enough of a review as ever, especially when considering all the other things he had to say about the other listed projects, which clearly listed off if he truly liked/loved the projects or if he simply didn’t.
All of this being said, fans have been having some of the most hilarious reactions to what and just how little the genius brain Lucas had to say about this incredibly controversial Star Wars movie developed under the rule of Disney.
Fans React to George Lucas’ Review of The Last Jedi
As expected, this minimal and incredibly measured review of Episode VIII from the person who gave birth to the Star Wars lore has fans understanding that they actually weren’t the only ones to find this movie so disappointing as compared to all the others.
That said, a majority of them are also left in hysterics with just how minute Lucas’ response to the movie was. Taking to the comment section on X, here’s how they’ve been reacting to the same:
he couldn’t even give TLJ a decent praise 💀💀💀💀

You can see where he got threatened by Disney lawyers 🤣

Man he gave last jedi such a beautifully Californian backhanded compliment
I howled the first time I heard it lol

Beautifully made means George liked how TLJ looked. Notice how he said nothing about the story. Or the treatment of the characters. His silence is deafening.

He didn't have anything nice to say about Last Jedi other than that 😂

Well guess it was always going to be this way 🤷🏾♂️

His Last Jedi quote is a diss

Needless to say, now that even fans know George Lucas’ reaction to the SW projects that were developed after him, it is only understandable just how much they know they can still resonate with the mastermind!
