Destiny 2 recently released its much-anticipated expansion called The Final Shape on June 4th. As Guardians eagerly logged in to explore the new content, they were met with many issues ranging from server issues to cutscenes not playing.
The developers at Bungie apologize and have been working hard to resolve these issues. They have rolled out many patches and already fixed many of the issues. But amidst the apologies, the studio potentially teased what lies ahead for the Destiny series: Destiny 3 Hope?
A Glimmer of Hope: Teasers for Destiny‘s Future
While The Final Shape expansion promised a wealth of new content and narrative developments, it also brought forth a slew of technical issues and gameplay imbalances. Some Guardians reported encountering frequent crashes, server instability, and other performance-related issues, which marred their experience in the game.
Despite the setback, there seems to be a silver lining, Speculation is circulating within the Destiny community following a recent tweet from Luke Smith, Executive Creative Director. He said many things about The Final Shape expansion and wished everyone to have a good time exploring the new area.
Our Hope is always the same with Destiny games, expansions, seasons, DLCs, exotic missions, secret missions, in-game events, merchandise, et cetera – we genuinely Hope you enjoy the time you spend with it. Anything we’ve made or will make, that’s the Hope. Make your own fate.
It's a Final Shape Eve – a 🧵. Hopefully it's an exciting time for you and I know it is for the Destiny Team. First and truly, thanks to all of you who have spent any time in Destiny since 2014's launch. It has for us and you been a long trip. 1/

Final Shape is the product of an immense effort from the Destiny development team, but Destiny itself has been built by many, many people who have since moved on from Bungie or to other projects. And to the team of today and the teams of many yesterdays, Thank You. 2/

In his tweets, Smith used the word “Hope” multiple times, prompting speculation about its significance. Could “Hope” be the name of the next Destiny title? Or is it a thematic element that will play a crucial role in the upcoming narrative arc? Guardians are eagerly examining every word, searching for clues about what lies ahead.
The phrase “Make Your Own Fate” has long been synonymous with the game’s franchise. It embodies the spirit of empowerment that defines the Guardian’s journey.
Destiny 3 on the Horizon? Guardians Brace for the Unknown
While Bungie has remained silent about any concepts or plans for a sequel, the studio’s track record suggests that they’re not going to stay resting for very long. Ever since parting ways with Activision in 2019, Bungie has shown a new sense of creativity and ambition. It can be seen in their ongoing efforts to expand the Destiny universe with the new Final Shape expansion.
The timing also seems right for a new chapter in the series. With the recent conclusion of the Lightfall expansion and also the narrative threads teasing at the emergence of new threats, Guardians are eager to see where the story goes next.
In the end, perhaps the true meaning of Destiny lies not in the destination but in the journey itself. So, let’s embrace the unknown, grab your destiny, and always remember: in Destiny, you truly do make your own fate.
