Zack Snyder‘s fridge at his Pasadena home has a mix of fruits, veggies, and protein which make up for a pretty strict and healthy diet. Then there are food items like a baked Ziti, which Snyder says are for his kids. The Man of Steel director opened up his fridge and his home gym for a little tour with Men’s Health last December.

Snyder’s physique clearly screams that he is a fitness freak. He shared that his obsession with his dietary health began when he started attaining a certain age. He shared that it was easy to feel invincible at a younger age but realized that one “can’t out-train a bad diet.” Snyder often relaxes his strict diet a bit, particularly when his wife, Deborah Snyder, wants to go out.

He shared that his wife would take him out to a fancy restaurant for a meal and would want him to eat something there. He joked that his wife would threaten to murder him if he kept to his strict diet at the restaurant. Snyder shared with Men’s Health:

My wife will take me to a beautiful restaurant and she’s like, ‘If you don’t eat something here, I will murder you.’

Snyder knows exactly what to eat when he’s offered with such cheat days. He called himself a “Carbonara addict” and shared that he loved pasta. The Army of the Dead director revealed that he had been chasing the food item ever since he had a Carbonara while shooting a commercial in Rome. He added that he had been trying to duplicate that dish ever since.

Deborah Snyder also has a say over another diet item of the director. Zack Snyder loves to drink coffee. He revealed that they had their morning coffee, Major Dickason’s Blend, from Peet’s Coffee in California for the past 10 years. He shared that they couldn’t change it since his wife couldn’t live with any other coffee.

Zack Snyder shared in the video that his trainer would make a menu for him. He showed Men’s Health the organized lunch and dinner in his fridge. He showed a box of chicken and broccoli, probably for lunch, and another box containing his dinner — steak, broccoli, and asparagus. His breakfast is usually egg whites, adding that he was eating one egg with the whites at the time.

He also shared that his other breakfast options were mangoes with frittata or an oatmeal cookie. He also gets to have a snack, which is usually a red or green apple. As for his routine plan, most of the time Snyder loved to train with the stars of his movie, just to understand “how intense what they’re going through is.” When asked about his typical workout routine, Snyder shared:

Today, I’m in here like today’s chest. So it’s high rep chest, it’s bench, incline, it’s cable crossover. It’s gotta be one day. The next day, back, same thing, high reps, 15 reps back to back. This is our first week on it, so we’re on this for three weeks.

However, Snyder revealed that he found it hard to keep the routine especially when he was in production. The 300 director is just doing enough to keep himself physically fit and keep going at his age.
