In the world of gaming, players always anticipate the release or announcement of their beloved franchise’s next title. With the recent popularity of the Fallout franchise due to its new Fallout TV series, fans are eager to hear the news about one of the most anticipated titles, Fallout New Vegas 2.
However, with the recent news coming from Todd Howard, it seems almost implausible that New Vegas 2 is even in the thoughts of the development team. For now, Howard expressed that they don’t want to rush things just to get multiple games out.
The Future of Fallout: Todd Howard’s Current Focus and Projects
In a recent interview with MrMattyPlays on YouTube, Todd Howard was asked about the future of the Fallout franchise, especially about the anticipated title Fallout New Vegas 2. Howard somewhat dodged the question, explaining that Fallout has gained even more popularity (Due to the Fallout TV series) and the recent release of their new Skyline Valley update for F76 is exciting. He further added:
For other Fallout games in the Future, obviously, I can’t talk about those right now. But I would say, sort of rushing through them or we need to get stuff out that is different than the work we are doing in 76, you know, we don’t feel like we need to rush any of that.
From what Howard said, it seems like Bethesda Game Studios is currently prioritizing other titles within the Fallout universe instead of revisiting the narrative-rich setting of New Vegas and wants to pursue the success of the TV series.
Right now, the Fallout TV show fills a certain niche in terms of storytelling. Totally get the desire for a mainline single-player game and look, those things take time. I don’t think it’s bad for people to miss things but we need to make sure we get it right.
Bethesda’s recent projects, such as the ongoing The Fallout Show and the upcoming title Fallout 5, have occupied the studio’s focus. This indicates that Howard wants to focus solely on the current projects rather than start working on new sequels like New Vegas 2.
Long-term Strategy: Balancing Fan Expectations and Creative Vision
Fans are eager to once again return to the Mojave Wasteland or continue the narrative where New Vegas left it. Howard‘s comment “We don’t feel like we need to rush any of that”, really woke up the fans and gave them the reality check. The comment not only hinted that the sequel is very far but also showed Bethesda’s broader ambitions and commitment to current projects.
As fans and the whole community continue to speculate and start heated discussions around social media and gaming forums, it is clear that the Fallout projects are being carefully thought out by Bethesda. Whether this slow-paced process pays off or leaves New Vegas 2 forever in the speculation is yet to be seen.
In the end, fans of the franchise will continue to speculate or discuss future titles. Todd Howard is again leaving all of them wondering what actually lies ahead for the title everyone loves and cherishes.
