The only two characters who have achieved the highest titles in the One Piece world are Gol D. Roger and Dracule Mihawk. Mihawk, being a swordsman, became the strongest swordsman in the world at an early age, and Roger, being a pirate, became King of the Pirates after finding the One Piece treasure. These are the only two characters who have maintained their titles till now.

Mihawk and Roger being at the top of their professions makes One Piece fans wonder who is the strongest between the two. While the comparison feels uneven, the two characters are a little similar, and if they had been born on the same timeline, the fight between the two would have been the greatest in One Piece’s history.
However, what many One Piece fans might not remember is that Mihawk has already admitted that Roger was way stronger than he is, and he might not even be close to beating the former King of the Pirates.
Mihawk Admitted Gol D. Roger Was Stronger Than Him
Dracule Mihawk made his first appearance during the Baratie arc, and there he was challenged by the swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates, Roronoa Zoro. Although it didn’t take much for Mihawk to beat Zoro, he recognized the bravery and strength in him and even had a conversation about Luffy and his goals in life.
Luffy stated that he would be the King of the Pirates, which startled Mihawk. That is when Mihawk admitted that being a Pirate King is a much harder goal than surpassing the strongest swordsman (Zoro’s goal). Therefore, Mihawk accepted the fact that being a Pirate King is much more difficult and perilous than being the strongest swordsman.

This in itself proves that Mihawk understands that the strength that is needed to become a Pirate King must be much more than becoming the strongest swordsman. Thus, it can be confirmed that Mihawk is nowhere near the level of Gol D. Roger, and even as the strongest swordsman, he might not have been able to beat Roger.
One Piece Fans Understand Gol D. Roger’s Strength
Roger is probably the strongest character in One Piece. Even after his death, no one has been able to achieve what he did. Also, the fact that he became Pirate King when he was sick makes him an even stronger character. Thus, comparing Roger to Mihawk is actually insane.

Thatonepiecetalk, a One Piece podcast, recently compared Roger and Mihawk and discussed it, where fans offered their own opinion in the comments section.
While many fans admitted the strength of both Mihawk and Roger, others were hellbent on stating that Mihawk doesn’t even come close to Roger.

If oda came out & said Roger was thee strongest person in the series ever…. A lot of people wouldn’t find that crazy…. Comparing mihawk to him is crazy
tgp_ocrunner commented:
Roger is most probably stronger, but in principle I stick to undecided when we cannot know
Comparing Roger with Mihawk might be understandable considering the fact that both of them were swordsmen and while Roger died as the Pirate King, Mihawk still maintained his title as the strongest swordsman. However, being the Pirate King in One Piece means Roger was stronger overall and not just in swordsmanship.
