Call of Duty has nurtured the competitive spirit of the gaming community for the last few years through the multiplayer aspect of the franchise. Fans are eager to dive right into it for this year’s entry and continue the tradition.
Unfortunately, the local multiplayer or split-screen feature for this year’s entry will be a significant downgrade to its predecessors. Rather than having a maximum of four players, Black Ops 6 can only accommodate two players exclusively for next-generation consoles.
The Local Multiplayer for Call of Duty Took a Wrong Step

The irony here is that the community anticipated that this year’s installment will be a massive improvement in every aspect given the combined efforts of Treyarch and Raven Software. However, Activision made the tough call to decrease the limit of players for the local multiplayer by half.
It only made the deal worse by making it only available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Not everyone is a fan of this decision and it seems like the developers are going backwards rather than forward.

The horsepower of current generation consoles are vastly superior compared to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. But those inferior consoles managed to accommodate 4 players and experienced minimal issues. Removing this feature or making it worse will cost the game greatly.
Perhaps Raven Software and Treyarch are much more concerned about improving the gameplay mechanics and prioritized perfecting the omnidirectional movement for this year’s entry. The developers wanted to establish this new animation and movement set and revolutionize the first-person genre and to inspire fellow game developers in a positive way that will encourage some friendly competition.
Black Ops 6 Could Potentially Be an Unbalanced Mess at Launch
![Activision is taking bold risks for the future of the Call of Duty franchise.](https://fwmedia.fandomwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/24194442/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-3-multiplayer-1024x576.png)
Microsoft is doing everything to ensure the upcoming game will set the standard for what the future of the franchise should like. The previous campaigns of the more recent games have been lackluster and the brief description for Black Ops 6 means to break that streak with an exhilarating story.
The quality of the campaign is another edge that classic games had apart from the four player split-screen. The developers should seriously reconsider increasing the amount of players for local couch matches and give the gaming community the experience they grew up with in the best way possible.
The developers wanted to ensure the quality of the feature and its performance will be available in its best form which is why it will only be available for next-generation hardware. This can be taken as a positive indication that the developers does care and are not willing to risk compromising what is left of the older games.
It may be disappointing to see the franchise take a step back rather than forward but it may be for the best. The technical leaps made could make it a hassle for developers to optimize this feature and decided to cut their losses for the greater good.
