Netflix yesterday announced that popular actor David Dastmalchian, who has been a part of major projects like The Dark Knight, Late Night With The Devil, and Oppenheimer, is now going to play Mr. 3 in the upcoming season of the live-action series.
This truly is a big update for One Piece fans, as the role of Mr. 3 is an important one. He not only plays a major part in the Alabasta saga but also has a big role in the Marineford arc. One Piece fans are confident that Dastmalchian will do justice to the character, as he is already a big fan of the anime and manga industry.
He once revealed that after working in huge MCU and DCU movies, the actor wants to be a part of the live-action adaptation of the prominent series, Vampire Hunter D, which has multiple anime and video game adaptations.
David Dastmalchian’s Love for Anime
In an interview with Crunchyroll, the Dark Knight actor once revealed that he is a big anime and manga fan, and the community has a big impact on him. He even pointed out that he feels like there are many prominent anime adaptations and live-action adaptations that he wants to be a part of, as it will be fun for him and for the audience to watch.
Dastmalchian stated:
I do think about the impact that all the media that I consume has on me, but I was just thinking about this the other day, was like I really believe there are a number of anime adaptations that haven’t yet occurred or that are maybe occurring soon where it’s like, I really feel like if I had the opportunity to play in that space, I think I could bring something really dynamic and fun to it.
Dastmalchian being cast as Mr. 3 in One Piece live-action is a big step for the actor, as he has been a big fan of the industry since childhood.

Dastmalchian feels that working in a live-action adaptation would be a challenge as the facial expressions and emotions of an anime character are extreme, and it would not be easy to bring those emotions to life.
David Dastmalchian Wants to Be a Part of the Vampire Hunter D Universe
While talking about his love for the anime and manga industries, David Dastmalchian expressed the desire to work on a live-action adaptation of Vampire Hunter D as the main character of the series.
Vampire Hunter D is based in a post-nuclear holocaust world where the main character is a half-human, half-vampire.
Dastmalchian revealed:
There’s an extreme, there’s an extremity to emotion and action, and expression that almost reminds me of like Italian Comedia Del Art type of theater, and I don’t know, I feel like we need the live-action Vampire Hunter D starring David Dastmalchian. I’m just gonna put that up, or I don’t know what it is actually. I think it’s black, but I really do want to play Sebastian. I don’t know what studio would ever approve that.
The Japanese fantasy horror anime movie based on the light novel series would be a perfect opportunity for Dastmalchian to star as a main character in a live-action adaptation, as the actor has mostly followed such dark roles.
