The latest episode of The Acolyte seems to have received a fresh welcome from fans as it reveals new mysteries and goes in a surprisingly violent direction. The fifth episode of the controversial series saw the Sith Master, being finally unmasked and many Jedi Knights face his wrath.
Many fans considered the show’s decision to kill off characters such as Jecki and Yord and the violent battle that ensued in episode 5 to be inspired by Game of Thrones. The episode was compared to the iconic ‘Red Wedding’ in the season 3 episode ‘The Rains of Castamere’. With such a huge comparison, The Acolyte might just be gaining some traction.
The Acolyte Episode 5 Kills Off Beloved Characters
The Star Wars shows and films have always just touched the darkness before heading back to a brighter and more positive tone. The latest Disney Plus series The Acolyte, however, has been exploring much darker themes. The controversial show dissects the Jedi Order and explores many grey areas within the morally right group of warriors.
The latest episode, however, seemed to have taken the darkness to a whole new level for a Star Wars show. Episode 5 of The Acolyte saw the series’ antagonist, the Master being unmasked and revealed to be Qimir. The Master then launches an all-out attack on the Jedis present in the vicinity along with Mae and goes on a killing spree.
The battle had a surprisingly high body count, including Dafne Keen’s Jecki, who died a horrible death from three lightsaber blows, and Yord, who had an unceremonious death, contrary to his nobility. The number of deaths in the episode was a welcome surprise to fans as Star Wars rarely goes this dark in its material.
The episode also hints that Sol, the Jedi master of the group has a darker past, which Qimir seems to be aware of. It also shows the origins of the ‘Sith’ term, which the Master was referred to. The end of the episode sees Osha and Mae exchange places, with both of them getting new masters and a new perspective on their world-views.
Fans Compare Latest The Acolyte Episode To An Epic Moment in Game of Thrones
When it comes to killing off fan-favorite characters without any buildup or answers, nobody does it better than Game of Thrones. The fantasy epic series started the trend of gruesome murders of beloved characters, who would traditionally have an upper hand. The latest episode of The Acolyte seemed to follow a similar pattern.
The deaths of Yord and Jecki in the show’s fifth episode have prompted fans to compare the bloodshed to the Red Wedding in Game of Thrones. The harrowing moment in George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series comes in the season 3 episode ‘The Rains of Castamere’ which sees the massacre of many members of the Stark family and army.
The legendary episode was reportedly one of the most shocking moments of the series, with Martin revealing that it rivaled the reaction to the scene in A Storm of Swords, the book. Actor Richard Madden, who plays the late Robb Stark also mentioned that he teared up when he saw the scene with co-star Michelle Fairley (via GQ).
The Acolyte is streaming on Disney Plus while Game of Thrones is available on Max.
