There are games that have had a profound impact on first-person shooters. But Call of Duty has held a special place in changing the FPS landscape to the core since the first game arrived in 2003.
Then Spec Ops: The Line was released nine years later. It certainly revived the franchise that had met with poor sales and a critical response. The game was too disturbing and kind of dark in its own unique way. It feels like Resident Evil 5 but with humanity still alive and well.
The game was developed by 2K, while a separate multiplayer experience for competitive and co-op play was developed by Darkside Game Studios. It was a third-person shooter, but it certainly changed how people viewed war games.
The Third Person Game Had Some Unforgettable Moments
![2K's game has some scenes that can send a player instant anxiety.](https://fwmedia.fandomwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/27060742/The-Line-1024x601.png)
Even today, the white phosphorus scene can give anyone chills, and killing the civilians is more ruthless than it was in the infamous Call of Duty mission, No Russian. 2K’s game went on for several nominations and won some too.
Now it’s designer, Cory Davis, recently made a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), asking players to keep the conversations, and apparently the game, that sparked back then alive.
That certainly began a conversation among the fans, where one RiseUp44 supported the fact that they needed more of such experiences.
Luis Ortis says it is on the list of his top 10 games he has played fully.
An account dubbed Studio ONE Games that appears to be another developer. It showed gratitude towards The Line for being an inspiration.
Even after 12 years, it seems like it tops the video games that the community is experiencing today.
Call of Duty Can Still Return to its Former Glory

While Call of Duty has undoubtedly implemented some of the best mechanics since Modern Warfare got a soft reboot, fans aren’t really happy with the current state of it. It is getting more like Fortnite now than Call of Duty, according to them.
They are not wrong. Developers are trying to deliver things that make it look more like a movie-based fashion competition than a war-based video game. Fans have a lot of hopes attached to the next Activision game, Black Ops 6, to restore the glory of the popular military shooter.
Activision doesn’t really need to look at the 2K game, as they have their own history. While the latter’s game brought one of the best gaming moments with the white phosphorus scene, the former did an amazing display of the attack in Modern Warfare. That scene holds the power to give an adrenaline rush.
