A Quiet Place: Day One is on its way to the big screens, and is already backed up by stunning critically approving ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. A sequel to John Krasinski’s masterpiece thriller film series with wife Emily Blunt, this one features Lupita Nyong’o in the lead instead, as opposed to the previous two installments in the series. However, it hasn’t earned a lot of fan approval yet.
In fact, if anything, even the thunderous ratings that the Tomatometer has for this Joseph Quinn-starrer horror/sci-fi seem to be lacking when it comes to convincing fans and gaining their approval. And, as fan reviews hint at it, it sounds like the time to address the racist elephant in the room, which is Nyong’o replacing Blunt in the movie, when the latter gave a truly epic performance.
Rotten Tomatoes is Deeming A Quiet Place: Day One a True Masterpiece
On the 26th of June, 2024, the third installment in the A Quiet Place film series, A Quiet Place: Day One debuted on the big screens, and almost immediately earned the approval of the most brutal of critics. This comes after viewing the scores with which it debuted on Rotten Tomatoes.
As reported by @DiscussingFilm on X, the movie debuted with a stunning 91% approval rating on the Tomatometer, which was, at the time, an average of the aggregate ratings of 35 critics. (Even as of this writing, the film stands at an impressive 87% rating from 60 critical reviews.)

Effortlessly enough, this is exciting and impressive and all, considering how such tremendous critical reviews haven’t quite been garnered by every other movie. However, the fan reviews on this seem to be pointing out that they are very far from being totally convinced about this piece’s epicness.
That said, it seems like it is finally time to address the racist elephant in the room.
As fans already know, in the previous two installments, it was Emily Blunt who efficiently carried out the role of the protagonist in the movie, leading the film to such brilliant heights of success that the first film has been rated a breathtaking 96% from critics’ reviews on the Tomatometer.
Despite this, Blunt was notably replaced from the leading role, which has instead been scored by Black actress Lupita Nyong’o. While the inclusion of Nyong’o, who is one of the best actresses in Hollywood as of now, is nowhere near the main problem unconvincing fans about this movie, the primary issue is swapping the race of the protagonist.
This is because this issue has been prevalent quite often in Hollywood lately. For instance, Romeo and Juliet have forever been portrayed as White people, in pretty much all the plays that have been made on it ever since. However, in Tom Holland’s play on the same, Juliet’s character was swapped to be black, which earned a lot of criticism from fans.
What’s more, is that this version of Romeo & Juliet wasn’t the last incident in Hollywood to be driven by such race-swapping, for, besides this latest installment in A Quiet Place film series, there have been multiple other instances where Hollywood has taken this exact critical approach to this game. And a part of the fans aren’t happy at all with this.
Fans are Divided and Seem to be Anything but Convinced
While it is understandable that Hollywood is trying to bring Black people and their incredible talent forward, what’s wrong about all this is that it is also trying to change things that have long been set differently. Just like how A Quiet Place film series previously had an all-White cast, which has now been changed with Nyong’o replacing the White lead.
All of this being said, here’s how fans are reacting to this issue on X:
I'll wait for the audience scores. But the franchise is 2-for-2 thus far, so I'm optimistic about this one(even if it still feels unnecessary after the opening 10 minutes of Part II).

Now we wait for the real score

Who else doesn't care anymore what the critics think?
As a matter of fact, most of the time, the audience feels the opposite way about films and TV shows.— Paisano (@Paisano) June 27, 2024
Audience Score Is King….

Where’s the audience score 🤔

Audience score > Critics score.

As mentioned before, it is truly of utmost importance to bring forward the immense talent of Black people as well. However, rather than trying to make them fit in places that have long been held by people of other races, Hollywood should try to build a whole new entertainment empire for Black people to empower them by having unique breathtaking storylines of their own.
A Quiet Place: Day One is set to hit the theatres on the 27th of June, 2024.
