In a shocking turn of events, Jack Quaid and Laz Alonso opened up about one such intense moment while shooting season 4.

During the event, the two actors shared their reaction to a disgusting scene from the show that left them shocked to the core, and even led the special effects supervisor to tweet about it
Jack Quaid Recalled an Intense and Gruesome Moment from The Boys’ S4
Following the premiere of The Boys S4, fans are undoubtedly taken back to the 2023 Toronto Comic-Con FanExpo, wherein the actors had dropped prior warning about the intensity awaiting audiences. Considering the shocking moments from the latest season, including Homelander’s visit to the Vought lab, Frenchie’s murder confession, and more, let’s look back at the cast’s response to shooting a few of the eye-popping scenes.
As per a snippet of the above-mentioned 2023 FanExpo shared on Instagram, Jack Quaid who plays Hughie Campbell is heard addressing one particular scene that blew his mind, not in a good way. Without giving out spoilers, Quaid was heard referring to how he initially freaked out after reading his lines, and then when he eventually saw the final shot, he simply couldn’t watch it.
There was a scene that we shot this season, where I found my line… uh, where I was like ‘ooh this is too much for me’. And I actually had a moment watching it and I actually had to like — usually I’m pretty good with you know blood and gore and all the mess up stuff we do — but this season… and it usually never happens to me, but I was like ‘whooop, nope, nope’, I turned away. So get ready for that.
Gaining acclaim for his portrayal of Hughie Campbell, Jack Quaid reflected on how he couldn’t watch the gruesome scene, after shooting it. Warning fans about the scenes that are awaiting them, Quaid proceeded with the discussion, which was later picked up by Laz Alonso, who similarly shared his bit of discomfort while shooting The Boys season 4.
Laz Alonso Admitted to Breaking Character During an Intense Scene
During the same 2023 Toronto Comic-Con FanExpo, Laz Alonso who is popularly known for his role as the loyal and steadfast Mother’s Milk, reverted to Jack Quaid’s comments and discussed his experience shooting a few of the most shocking scenes. Beginning by informing fans about how he was present when Quaid expressed discomfort on set, Alonso shared his personal experience of breaking character.
Much like Jack Quaid, instead of giving out details about the particular scene in discussion, Laz Alonso simply noted how he was unable to contain his reaction during the sequence. Despite being known for his professionalism and maintaining composure on set, Alonso confessed to struggling with his performance due to the gruesomeness of the scene.
First time in my life, not on this show, in my life where I broke character and screamed, Alonso noted.
And I was like, Laz is going for in this take. Quaid reflected.
And then it caught me so off guard, I started… I was out of character at that point and I’m like, ‘you guys aren’t gonna use this take right?’ and nobody yelled cut, so I had to get back in character and keep going and it was f*cked up… and matter of fact, our special effects supervisor Stefan Steen, he tweeted about this and it went viral. And I think the tweet was, ‘I have seen the grossest or the nastiest thing I’ve ever seen in my life on this show.’ and he’s not wrong. Alonso shared.
The specific details of the scene have been kept under wraps to avoid spoilers for fans eagerly anticipating the complete new season. However, the incident has sparked curiosity and speculation among The Boys fans, wondering what could elicit such a visceral reaction from Alonso and Quaid. While 5 episodes have been released so far, fans are awaiting the final three episodes slated to be released by July 2024.
