Jeremy Renner, now known to most as the Marvel bow-and-arrow wielding superhero Hawkeye, started his acting journey with small roles in shows and music videos. But it didn’t take long for his talent to shine through, as he started getting better opportunities pretty early, even getting nominated for an Oscar for his role in The Hurt Locker.
After numerous other roles, he got the opportunity of a lifetime after being cast in the MCU, making his debut with the 2011 movie Thor. He has been playing the character for more than a decade now but started branching out more after Avengers: Endgame. Now he is busy playing the role of Mike McLusky in the Paramount show, Mayor of Kingstown, and fans are just as impressed with him as ever.
Jeremy Renner Is Done Playing Challenging Roles After Sno-Cat Accident
On January 1, 2023, Jeremy Renner was in a near-fatal accident. His Sno-Cat ran him over while he was trying to clear the snow around his driveway in his home in Nevada. He had to undergo multiple surgeries and hours and hours of physiotherapy before he was able to walk unassisted again. But his will to live and positive attitude became his matra on his road to recovery.
That being said, it wasn’t easy for him to return to acting on the anniversary of his accident. In January of 2024, Renner put on the mask of Mike McLusky once more as he returned to film the third season of the show. But he revealed that it was only because he was familiar with the role and the story that he was able to come back to Mayor of Kingstown. Had it been something challenging, he would have probably said no to it. Expanding on that, Renner revealed on the Smartless podcast:
I still struggle with it sometimes … I don’t take it super seriously. I’m in a character that I can do very well and I know the show very well, so it was easy for me to kind of slide back into it.
He further added:
But if it was a very challenging role, I couldn’t have taken it. Not challenging in the sense that – because the show’s challenging, but it’s if I had to go play Dahmer or something, something so far from me.
We are just glad he was well enough to return for the third season, which has gotten some pretty impressive reviews. Having gone through such a traumatic experience, it is no doubt a big part of his personality and life now.
Jeremy Renner Wants to Be Positive After His Near-Fatal Accident
Jeremy Renner was giving fans update on his health not even a month after he was run over by the Sno-Cat. He has always been a fun-loving and positive person, but the accident has only made him that much more positive about life and the experiences it has to offer. So playing “make-belief” is not that high up on his list of priorities.
He told Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes during the podcast that he doesn’t have the energy for it anymore.
I have so much fuel to put into this reality, this body, all this stuff. I can’t just go play make-believe right now. Because that takes a lot of time to get right here every day just so I can have a positive thought, so I can progress, so I can always keep growing.
We only hope he enjoys his work still and keeps giving praise-worthy performances in whatever role he chooses to work on. You catch Jeremy Renner in Mayor of Kingstown, available on Paramount+.
