Henry Cavill has made a massive name in pop culture for successfully adapting the character of Superman and the Witcher on-screen. Although his run as both of these characters was unfortunate, the fans loved him for his faithfulness to the source material.
Soon after Liam Hemsworth took over the role of Geralt in the popular Netflix series, Henry Cavill shifted to a video game adaptation of Warhammer 40K. While the fans are eagerly waiting for the project, he can also continue his dream run of adaptation by playing a character in the upcoming Street Fighter game, Ken Masters.
Presently, we have witnessed a surge in movie adaptations of several popular video game titles. After years of poor video game adaptations, the success of projects like Sonic the Hedgehog and The Super Mario Bros. Movie has confirmed that the scenario has changed.
Henry Cavill can take Street Fighter live-action to another level
Street Fighter is a prominent video game IP in the industry and has revolutionized the genre of one-on-one fighting. Recently, Deadline reported that Legendary Entertainment and Capcom will jointly make a live-action adaptation of the game for a 2026 release. Legendary is not new in this field as they previously released a successful adaptation of Detective Pikachu.
Soon after the report of a new Street Fighter movie came out, we could not help but wonder what would the casting look like. Earlier when we got the adaptation of the game, it was not at all faithful to the source material. However, Henry Cavill can be a perfect choice to elevate the level of Street Fighter by appearing as Ken Masters.
Ken Masters is one of the primary characters in the Street Fighter games and is the best friend and rival of the protagonist Ryu. The blonde-haired red sleeveless keikogi-sporting character possesses a godly physique and some of the most incredible skill sets in the game. Damian Chapa played Ken Masters in the 1994 adaptation.
Given how Henry Cavill perfectly transitioned to Geralt of Rivia for The Witcher series, he can be one of the best names to pull off the role. On top of that, Cavill is highly praised by his fans for being faithful to the source materials. With him on board, the 2026 Street Fighter live-action reboot can also do justice to the game, unlike the 1994 and 2009 adaptations.
Presently, Cavill is also taking his sweet time for his passion project, the adaptation of Warhammer 40K. He has assured the fans of the miniature wargame that his live-action series will be true to it.
What do we know about the upcoming Street Fighter reboot?
Interestingly, the upcoming Street Fighter reboot has a release date but does not have a writer or director yet. The Australian director duo Danny and Michael Philippou, popular for the A24 horror flick Talk to Me were roped in to helm the project before they recently left the project to focus on their next A24 flick, Bring Her Back.
Talk to Me was a surprising hit among the masses and the excitement of the directors regarding the project hyped up the fans. Now it will be looked forward who fills up the empty slots and if they can break the streak of unsuccessful Street Fighter films.
Besides the film adaptations like Sonic the Hedgehog, Detective Pikachu, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, series like The Last of Us and Fallout have also raised the standards of adaptations. The addition of Henry Cavill can be a prominent move in making the 2026 Street Fighter film.
The new Street Fighter movie will be released on March 20, 2026.
