When Matt Reeves joined the superhero party with his own take on Batman with Robert Pattinson, fans of the Caped Crusader were beyond elated. While there were initial doubts about the actor’s ability to bring the billionaire to life, he proved everyone wrong in the end with a fresh iteration of the character.
On Rotten Tomatoes, The Batman has a score of 85% with critics raving about the film. However, there is one significant aspect where Robert Pattinson’s Batman fell short while competing with his predecessor, Ben Affleck – the action sequences.
Ben Affleck’s Batman Had Superior Action Sequences
Ben Affleck’s run as Batman was a topic of debate amongst die-hard fans of the character. While some believe that he’s the most comic-accurate Batman to date others aren’t too fond of his version. Regardless of the varying opinions, we can all agree that the man had some of the most formidable and memorable fight scenes in the character’s cinematic history.
Take the warehouse fight scene in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which made $872 million at the box office, for example. Affleck’s Batman takes down a group of armed thugs by using a culmination of martial arts, tactical prowess, and raw strength. Throughout the fight, we were at the edge of our seats unable to take our eyes off the screen even for a split second, not wanting to miss even a moment of the masterclass in action.
Those who have seen the warehouse scene once can vouch for the fact that it’s tradition to keep going back for more. It simply does not get old! Everything from the choreography to the cinematography was sheer perfection and even though the film doesn’t have the best reviews, such scenes make up for that.
Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, on the other hand, took a different approach. Instead of going ham on the action, the film decided to take a more detective-y route and showcase the superhero’s investigative skills.
While this did bring a fresh take to the character, quite different than what was seen in Zack Snyder’s films, it meant a compromise on bombastic action sequences.
Fans Vouch for Ben Affleck’s Batman
Many fans agree that Pattinson’s film lacked a certain flair when it comes to the action sequences but they also acknowledge the fact that The Batman focused more on sleuthing than fighting.
On the other hand, many even contradicted this by listing out some of the most intense scenes from the film such as the high-speed chase between Batman and the Penguin and the time when Batman infiltrated the Iceberg Lounge.
Take a look at what fans had to say about the Affleck vs Pattinson debate:
While everyone is entitled to their opinions, it is important to acknowledge the fact that both versions of Batman have their unique strengths on full display. After all, the superhero has something for everyone, right?
