Gamescom is an annual gaming exposition that’s been taking place since 2009. It’s one of the largest gaming events in the world and used to be popular among studios right until the COVID-19 pandemic, when many of the biggest publishers moved to their own showcases, including PlayStation.
PlayStation last appeared at Gamescom years ago, where it featured titles such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and Control. Unfortunately, it’s been confirmed PlayStation will skip Gamescom again this year.
While that’s incredibly disappointing, PlayStation is all set to appear at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2024 and might have something truly revolutionary for the console.
PlayStation Is Returning to Tokyo Game Show 2024
The full list of exhibitors for the highly-anticipated Tokyo Game Show 2024, set to run from September 26 to 29, is finally out. We’re going to see some of the most notable names in the industry, such as Bandai Namco Entertainment, Capcom, and Square Enix. You’ll be surprised to know that even Sony Interactive Entertainment is joining the party this time.
This exciting news marks the first time PlayStation will be exhibiting at an event since 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic destroyed all kinds of gaming events worldwide from 2020 onwards, but last year marked the return of the Tokyo Game Show as a full physical exhibition.
Tokyo Game Show brings together a diverse range of exhibitors, promising a wide range of gaming experiences for enthusiasts of all genres. It allows us to get an insight into the future of gaming and lets players engage with their favorite brands directly. PlayStation’s return to the event truly stands as a testament to its significance and appeal.
Time will tell what Sony is cooking for the show. The event will bring 731 exhibitors, and there will be more than 3,000 exhibition booths. It’s a higher count than the previous year, with the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association promising everyone the “largest-ever scale” for the event.
What Is PlayStation Planning for Tokyo Game Show 2024?
We still don’t have a shred of an idea what Sony is planning to present at the Tokyo Game Show 2024. However, it seems like there’ll be a particular focus on Japanese games. By the time the event kicks off, Team Asobi’s Astro Bot will have launched, but Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2 might get another trailer.
Of course, it’s a perfect moment for Sony to finally unveil the long-rumored PlayStation 5 Pro console, which is supposed to debut in Fall 2024. It’s all speculation, and nothing is confirmed until Sony officially tells us.
It’s great to see Sony returning to the Tokyo Game Show in such a manner. It’s time for fans to buckle up, as this event could change the trajectory and give us insights into what Sony has planned for the future of its console.
