According to director Shawn Levy, he and Reynolds pitched multiple ideas for Deadpool 3 before they finally were able to mount the film. However, Kevin Feige reportedly only had one condition for the film to happen. Levy told to ComicBook.com,

He said, ‘Yes, but he wears the yellow. Can he finally wear the yellow?’ And we began.

Fans seemed to be ecstatic to hear that the MCU president still cared about the fans after a string of disappointing releases from the franchise. Feige has always tried to make dreams of fans come true and Deadpool & Wolverine is the latest instance of that.

Feige was also reportedly the executive producer on Hugh Jackman’s first appearance as Wolverine in X-Men and longed to see the comic-accurate suit on screen. Despite being teased in multiple films, Deadpool & Wolverine will be the first time fans see Jackman wearing the suit.

Ryan Reynolds has had to convince studios to make the right Deadpool film multiple times and despite staunch resistance, he has prevailed. While the first film was made after a rigorous fan campaign due to a leaked trailer, Reynolds reportedly had to pitch several versions of Deadpool & Wolverine with Shawn Levy to Marvel.

Reynolds and Levy mentioned how they tried everything from a Roshomon-esque film to a road trip film with Dopinder. The idea to include Wolverine in the film was reportedly rejected by Kevin Feige who said that it could never happen. However, while they were pitching yet another version, they got a call from Hugh Jackman, who wanted to return to the role.

Shawn and I just pivoted in the middle of our pitch to Kevin and said, ‘Look, this thing just happened. It seems kind of miraculous. Hugh called me, what do you say?’ And for some reason, Kevin immediately said yes.

The upcoming film will be the sole theatrical release from the franchise this year and is expected to be a blockbuster. It is also the first R-rated film in the franchise.
