Ridley Scott’s Gladiator was no less than a visual epic and a historical treat for fans. Not only did it set a precedent for how historical drama movies should be approached but the brilliant cinematography of the film and the visual treatment gave the film an extra edge, making the harrowing story even more impactful.
Set years after the events of Gladiator, Scott’s Gladiator 2 is about to be released. And just hours ago, it released its first trailer, already setting the stage for an epic showdown that is sure to overtake even Russell Crowe’s Oscar-winning flick in the Roman land.
Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 Might be Way Better Than Its Oscar-winning Predecessor
After more than twenty years, Ridley Scott is back with a sequel to his award-winning film, Gladiator. Starring the likes of Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal, the movie’s first trailer has just been released, and already the stakes and expectations have risen high. The reason for fans’ rising expectations and anticipation is one scene/ event featured in the upcoming flick.
In ancient Rome, the Colosseum was used for a wide range of events, ranging from gladiator contests to animal battles. But one of the lesser-known and most exciting parts of its history is the massive pool created within it, used specifically for astonishingly brutal and epic naval battles, called naumachia, for the sole purpose of entertainment (via National Geographic).
Featured in the upcoming movie is a fictional event of similar proportions, as per the trailer of the movie. Although not many details have been shown in the trailer about the said naval battle, if Scott has remained just to history, the event undoubtedly would be horrendously gory and brutal, making the sequel better than the first film!
Naval Battle Scene in Gladiator 2 Has Fans Excited
Despite being staged, ancient Roman naval battles within the Colosseum were battles filled with thousands of people, often convicts, forced to engage in brutal combat for the sake of entertainment. Never before seen in the history of cinema, the scene in the upcoming Gladiator 2, if executed right, will even make Russell Crowe‘s Gladiator look like just another historical drama film.

With fan expectations sky high and the trailer promising that the movie is going to another pompous event, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 is anticipated to be a huge blockbuster. Containing an ensemble cast and cinematography anticipated to be grander than the first Gladiator movie, we can hardly wait to see what Scott has prepared for us.
