Shrek is one of the most iconic animated films of all time. Being a joy ride for people of all age groups, the film series was immortalized in the film industry. While the genius of DreamWorks can be thanked for it, there is no denying that the cast and their voice acting can be heavily credited for the film’s success. Its ability to not take itself too seriously made it a cult classic that people continue to visit, more than two decades after its release.

Despite this, fans have been wanting more from the series for years. It would seem that their wishes have finally come true in the best way possible. However, there happens to be one catch.
Shrek—The Revival
What started off as an odd film about a green ogre turned into a four-film series that fans have fallen in love with. The fourth film, Shrek Forever After, was released more than ten years ago, and while it got mixed reviews, fans cannot seem to get enough of the world that DreamWorks created for them.

There have been petitions, conversations, and demands that the series continue on and another film be added to the series. After years of begging, their prayers seemed to have finally been heard. The official account for Shrek on X recently put out the best possible post for fans of the character and series.

They announced that after 14 years of waiting, Shrek 5 is in the works, set to be released in two years. On top of its revival, it was also mentioned that Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz will all be coming back to revive their roles. It is safe to say that fans are very happy.
However, the festivities seem to be somewhat bittersweet.
The Case of the Missing Cat
While Shrek fans are more than happy that Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz are all coming back in their iconic roles, they cannot help but notice the absence of a certain cat from the conversation. Antonio Banderas, who played the role of Puss in Boots, has not been officially brought up or confirmed to be joining the film, and fans cannot help but be upset.

The actor very recently revived his role, starring in the 2022 film, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which was extremely well-received. Knowing this, and the fact that he has had his own series that has followed a pattern similar to the Shrek films, if he does not appear in the new movie, his absence would be felt.

I hope he'll be okay with coming back after all his work on The Last Wish!
Puss is definitely his most constant role, I hope he's not tired

Other than this one hiccup, fans are collectively very excited about the movie and cannot wait to see what the series comes up with. Since they would not come out with a sequel after ten years if it was a bad script, the film has some very high expectations to meet.
