Maika Monroe is set to star in her upcoming film Longlegs with Nicolas Cage. The latter is notorious for his method-acting chops, the kind that leads to some awkward situations with his co-stars. However, Monroe was taken aback when she heard that Cage was a fan of her work as well.
Monroe spoke to IndieWire about her experience working with the Ghost Rider alum and how much she admired the actor. Monroe was also vocal about one thing that she could never find herself doing, that Nicolas Cage does regularly.
Mika Monroe could never find herself indulging in method acting
Nicolas Cage is known for completely disappearing into the character that he is playing. The marketing around the film has made sure that the audience never sees Cage’s character before they come to see the film in theatres. Something similar was done with Maika Monroe who only ever saw Cage on the final shooting day.
Speaking to IndieWire, she revealed:
You can’t necessarily snap out of it, but I’m definitely not the Method type of actor. It just isn’t for me. I have massive respect for it. I think it’s incredible, and I think certain roles, especially, you need to do that.
I think for Nic, you kind of need to stay in that space. There’s no part of Nic that exists in that character, but I think for me, just for mental health reasons, it’s just nice to be able to step out of that world.
Cage essays the role of a killer at the center of a series of unsolved murders, which Maika Monroe‘s Lee Harker takes upon herself to solve, only to discover a personal connection with the seasoned criminal. Further, the killer has a direct link to the occult, complicating the case further.
Longlegs has already wowed critics ahead of it’s release
Longlegs is set to release in theatres on July 12, 2024, but the film has already made its mark online with the raving reviews that it has received. The film is being described as a classic horror film that has put in the work, is well made, and makes a brilliant character out of Nicolas Cage’s satanic serial killer.
The film is hotly anticipated by audiences, but it seems like it has a very short time to make back its budget. With films like Inside Out 2 dominating the box office, and Deadpool & Wolverine on the horizon, the film seems to be sandwiched between two heavy hitters, which could hurt its collection at the same time.
However, given that Cage’s star power and performance in the film have impressed critics all around, it is possible that the film actually ends up making back its money at the box office or even breaking even.
Longlegs will hit theatres on July 12th, 2024
